oil change

hi all,

am just about to do an engine, gbox and lsd oil changes' on my v8s. Have checked through the 'bible' and see no mention of running a flushing agent through the engine prior to draining the old engine oil out. Has this just been missed, or is there a reason peculiar to these v8 engines why not to flush out first?? i.e. the risk of draining all the oil out of the pump, thus requiring the bleeding of said pump (or need to pack with vaseline).

Also, could anyone recommend the appropriate oils for the gearbox and lsd for the v8s too??

Unless you think servicing has been neglected by a previous owner I wouldn't bother with a "flush"?

Great post. I was debating on running a flush through my motor on the next change...cheap oil and dump will work for me!

The oil draining out of the pump isn't a massive problem, force oil into it from the filter housing and then take the dizzy out and spin the pump up with an electric drill though it shouldn't be empty unless you've left it with no filter on for ages.

I've got Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle 75W-90 Fully Synthetic MTF in my gearbox and Castrol SAF-XJ 75w-140 fully synthetic final drive lubricant in the diff.

I think someone does do an oil specifically for the lt77 box but I can't remember who or what it's called.

Will get her up on axle stands this wkend and replace all the oils.

Whilst under there, will grease the old girl up and give her a good clean and thorough inspection of all things mechanical and obviously the chassis!
