Right, I'm bored !!

Time to share my stupid thoughts !

We all know the Tuscan R is a fantastic car, but @ £75,000 is probably well out of reach of any of us lot on the S forum.

I would love to own a brand new TVR one day, I have even convinced the Missus that she should be driving a Chimaera, I doubt it will be a new one.

How about if Mr Wheeler re introduced the S. Obviously sticking closely to the original shape and design, only with some nice 21st century bits in there.

i.e power to be provided by the Ford 3.0 24V 228 Bhp V6 engine from the Mondeo ST220.

In standard form and draging all the weight of a mondeo about this engine still produces 27 mpg and propels the thing to over 150 mph.

If this could be put together for around £25,000 i'd be beating my dealers door down, as would some of the people who currently buy Elises and those dodgy Vauxall thingys.

Or would this just be taking TVR to the masses, maybe we should keep the secret all to ourselves?

Any thoughts ??

Might harm the residuals of the other models... but I'd be interested...

Certainly TVR seem to have lost their way a bit with the poke-for-pound they were so renouned for.
With the "entry level" car now being the Tamora at £36.5k-odd (ignoring the £35k Chimaera 4.5 as I'm sure its days are numbered) I'm sure there is a market for a mid £20k's junior TVR.

Or perhaps TVR feel this market sector is too keenly competed in at the moment?

-I reckon, personally struggling to find the money for a Griff upgrade

-since I'm already fed up with my Tiv looking stupid against rep mobiles (and hot hatches)

£25k for a new TVR? would give it serious consideration

TVR are limited to a production run of 2000 cars max per year which is very roughly what they produce. This is to take advantage of SVA regs.

Why make 2000 cars for 25K when you can make 2000 at 50k?

Plus PW likes making things and not buying in stuff and simply bolting it together.

Hmm.. nice idea but..

"i.e power to be provided by the Ford 3.0 24V 228 Bhp V6 engine from the Mondeo ST220."

Front Wheel Drive in a TVR?

"If this could be put together for around £25,000 i'd be beating my dealers door down, as would some of the people who currently buy Elises and those dodgy Vauxall thingys."

Bear in mind that the S was very successful due to it's low price when launched, however the last ones were the wrong side of £20k ten years ago - is a £25k TVR practical today?

"Or would this just be taking TVR to the masses, maybe we should keep the secret all to ourselves?"

Chim and Griff gave TVR to the masses, we know better

Who says it has to be FWD? The Dare DZ uses the Mondeo V6 in a mid-engined RWD config, as does the Noble M12.

Would they be any more reliable? They'd have much tougher competition, and without the huge performance you'd struggle to sell them. Add in any sort of reliability problems and they would become a laughing stock. Anyway, I suspect the 'entry level' TVR market is satisfied by the supply of low mileage second hand TVRs.

I agree though, that a really fast TVR based on a proven high power production engine within TVR's chassis/suspension/body would be a better proposition than the current crop of (imo) expensive (imo) fragile models - fast and pretty though they may be.

So how would you get it in a S3 then, the boot in mine wasn't that big. And if it was mid-engined it wouldn't be a TVR

I disagree here though, I mean.. chassis, body, loom, etc etc.. off the shelf engine, transmission, suspension and brakes.. reliablility shouldn't be SO much of an issue.. you could pop them out at under 20K in good numbers and get by.. then you're encroaching on the MX5 etc. market... I know which I'd rather have...

Rear-mid-engined, front-mid-engined, its still a driveshaft down to a rear diff.

I know you were just being pedantic.
