2.9 V6 ECU mapping
Discussion
Has anyone ever had their engine properly mapped? I don't mean a Superchip, but a properly mapped ECU for the 2.9 V6.
As I understand it, the Ford EEC IV ECU is pretty well unmappable as it is a sealed system, so I am interested to hear from anyone who may have had a replacement or adapted ECU fitted to their car which has been properly mapped.
The reason I want it done, is that my engine will be bored to around 3.3 litres, with ported & flowed head, lightened, balanced and fitted with a fast road cam. To make the most of it, it will need to be properly controled via the ECU.
Jas.
P.S. Estimated power should be in excess of 200 Bhp & 200 LbFt torque.

I think you might need to get one of the fully programmable ECU’s, although not cheap someone like power engineering should be able to tell you where you can get one.
Who is doing your engine work? Can they not tell you where to get one? What power did you get from your car previously?

Paul,
Do you have a number for Power Engineering and an idea of cost?
A contact through friends in motorsport have put me in touch with Dartford Rebore who will be doing the rebuild on the engine and Baldyne Engineering at Biggin Hillare balancing it. (They do aircraft engines). The original engine hasn't been touched, so must by now, be less than TVR's 170 Bhp.
I already have one ECU mapping company contact number, but thought i'd see if anyone else had done it.

Jas,
Check thier site out. When they did mine 3 weeks ago they got 178bhp and 193 lbft !! Tower View use them for their work.
So I would expect yours to post similar due to it's lower mileage.

Dartford Rebore seem to be quite good, apparently Brands Hatch use them for their Ford Fiesta Engines. Had them look at modifying a Mini engine for me but seemed a little uncertain when it came to things like offset boring etc. Their price seem top be quite good and are very helpful, also helps they are about 2 mins from my girlfriends house. Another person i would recommend is Ferriday Engineering (01785 621710) as they did the heads for my S, 3 angle seats, new guides, core plugs and skim was £240 for the pair inc post and getting 5 snapped studs out.

Paul,
I will contact Ferriday for the heads, they seem quite good.
Dartford Rebore do seem to do a good job by all acounts, and one of the guys there who runs the place is good friends with one of my best mates, so hopefully the price will be pretty good too!
Isn't life much easier with friends!!
Jas.
P.S. I have found that the only company who can program the ECU once the engine has been developed is Superchips! They can do a full re-map and dyno on the rolling road for £600-£700 inc vat.
Power Engineering said they couldn't do it!

It does. They are a simple item to fit.As for the air flom meters, you are right but there are many old cars lurking in scrapyards.I managed to get the whole lot including all the engine electric for £650.1998 Coswrth Granada ,40K miles.I know that I only wanted the heads, but the rest might be available if you fancy it. a thought!
