changing to chimaera seats-anyone done it.?
Discussion
hi all, still finding my feet with the s and was needing to either replace or recover the seats as they are getting a bit tatty.i heard that chimaera(sp?)seats fitted into the s and was wondering if anyone has tried this,or is this an expensive route and i would be better getting new cow put on the old ones.also any idea where i can get the plastic covers for the tilt lever mech as they are missing.any ideas much welcome,so much to learn!

cheers guys, will do a bit of phoning around to see about prices.i believe they are a bit better than the s ones.this might be the best option as mine are starting to sag as well(the seats that is,boom boom!)
Often the cause of the sag is just the foam and the cradle underneath. The cradles are bespoke for TVR and you will not be able to replace like for like.
What often happens is that where the S leaks the wires under the seats corrode and brake and before you know it you're sat on the floor.
I had the foam replaced in mine and also had the wires replaced by a fabric cradle strengthened at the edges with a bar. Works a treat and very comfortable.
Chimaera seats will do the same as the originals over time aswell.
Cheers

phoned douglas valley breakers, they have a set in the right colour for £100 each.sound about right?
I'd wanna see them first, as Mark said the Chimaera seats will do the same as the originals over time as well, so these ones for £100 each may be worn or will get like your ones soon.
My drivers one has gone the way Mark mentioned, to be honest with you I think it might be better to get the foams and webbing replaced by a trimmer, obviously get some quotes first.
I was going to go the S/H Chimaera/Griff seats route, but I'm going to wait till the summer (ha!) is over and look to get the seats re-trimmed over the winter.
Cheers,
Dave.
thanks dave, problem is im up in scotland and cant see the seats, would have to be done on trust(or a very long journey) if you see what i mean.think ill go and have a word with an uppolsterer(sp?) up here. theres a guy in dundee with a really good rep. hes about 70 ish and his workshops a total mess -but you want to see the work he produces!one of the old type craftsmen i think.
Kev,
In your location, I think that would be the best bet. Otherwise you could end up disapointed about someones opinion of "good condition" when they turned up, or disapointed that you'd made a wasted trip.
Hope this chap in dundee can sort you out.
Cheers,
Dave.

I'm not sure why you'd want Chimaera seats, to be honest. They're not very comfortable or supportive, especially laterally.
I'm saving up for a set of Clive's Zertec seats (www.zertec.co.uk/8.htm) for my Chimaera. Yum.
