Radio overheating?

For the last year or so the radio, Sony with CD changer in the boot, keeps cutting out or the volume just sticks at one level. I assumed it was just getting old and thoght it needed replacing.

Earlier today I took it out after a 10 mile drive and it was very, very, hot. Too hot to hold. This may explain the cut-outs as it works fine when it cools down.

Just at thought, is there a way to vent the radio hole?

If you have the two "eye balls" air vents on your console pull the tubes off the back, that should thrush a bit of fresh air around the radio

Take it out and chuck it away and enjoy the sound coming from the rear

mine has 2 big amps and still i cant hear it unless sitting in traffic - i only use it to charge my phone now!

I pulled one vent hose off and went for a spin. No problems when moving. I left it to idle in the garage and after 5 mins the sound cut out again. I guess the answer is not to stop!

Not cheap but sounds like you need one of these (or a new radio)

I've just bought a Sony dsx-a50 mech less bluetooth head unit only 110mm deep so will have plenty of room to allow it to breathe less than £80 on amazon plays from USB stick Bluetooth and tuner also full handsfree via Bluetooth as well. Love it. Will use micro 16gb stick £10 to hold over 100 cd worth plus what's on my iPhone
