couple of points:
What roofseal is recommended? I know Fabseal is mentionned alot but also see the bible suggests Thomsons waterseal - any preference and where do I buy it?
I replaced my cracked roofstrut last night - did the pair as new ones match and dont rattle apparently - the drivers side one is no where near as taught (sp?) as the passenger side, which takes the majority of the tension therefore and is alot harder to pull down to remove roof. although the new struts mean that it doesnt rattle, although slack compared to the other strut, i dont know if i need to address this. the bible has no guidance and the only logical thing i can see to do is add washers to increase the angle the strut is at when pushed up and thereby increase the tension. Any thoughts ? (or do i just leave it and stop fussing)
PS - also spent last night bailing out the passenger footwell. Looks like a new grommet and sealant this Sunday then!

Hi Shnozz,
My roof was leaking slightly so I reproofed it with Thomsons Waterseal from B+Q (cheaper than Fabsil) and then went to Chatsworth the next day - not one tiny leak so I can recomend it ! I bought the big tin and just brushed it on carefully, it soaked in well and dried out with no marks at all.
I believe that the best method is to elongate the holes in the rear panel slightly with a file and then move the bottom fixing of the strut upwards to tighten. If the strut is not tight you could lose a roof panel - be careful. Although it's summer now so the roof will be off
Cheers,
JSG.

My S3 and the V8S don't seem to have them - but then I don't know what they look like if I've not had them I'm confused now.
You're confused, I've got an S2 and I havent got a clue what Pete is talking about, and I've spent alot of time down there mopping up. Until I finally got it sorted.
They're best described as channels, running the length of the body sills (passing right under the doors) and through into the footwell and down to the front of the body tub. They're quite wide (a small fire extinguisher rests in the passenger side one on my S2)
Re: the leaks, what I found was these channels filled up and soaked the main footwell. The water was carried over the lip by the underlay on the carpets.

At least I know what you're on about. - The fire extinguisher lives on the Driver's side in my S1.
Hurrah, I'm not going insane then.......
back to the leaks, the passenger side 'channel' was filling up due to the combination of a leak around the seal on the indicator side repeater and and another leak through the wiper mount seal (the water ran down the cable that drives them behind that flap above the passenger footwell that hides the electrics)
The driver side was a pig to find, but water comes in through the weather strip at the bottom of the door glass (outside top of door) into the door, down to the hinge (on inside of door) and through the the hinge into the sill....still not managed to plug that one properly yet....best to get a new weather strip I guess!
thanks all - thomsons waterseal this weekend me thinks.
the footwell leak is in the middle of the footwell and so i think it is the grommet and will attack that this weekend and see what happens next time it rains.
re the roof struts - dont know if it relates to the tension of the passenger side strut, but the roof panel for the drivers side now seems to sit slightly higher than that on the passenger side. i am sure it was a better fit beforehand. ideally i would like to slacken off the passenger side one as it is a real bugger to release where it is so tight. Any pointers on this?

shnozz,
If I remember rightly it was the passenger one that was shagged in the first place on your motor? and hence the change now.
If so, then perhaps then it has never been a good fit and what you are experiencing needs to be sorted out now before the new one is shagged as well.
I've not had to adjust mine so I can not offer any first hand experience but I'm sure there are those on here that can.
