2.8 manifold for Terry

Terry these are off a 2.8 "something" but not sure if they are the right ones for a TVR?

If they look any use to you let me know.

From the parts book it looks like drivers side is the shorter one?

But then the long one would point up in the air on the passenger side




Number cast on the short one is BSI79TF 9430EB
and on long one 79TF 9431 60635

These may be production or batch numbers and not part numbers?

I'm sure it's the drivers side that's the longer one on my engine and its cranked downwards at 45 degrees like yours..
I think that pic is either back to front or for another variant..
I'll check again in the morning as the car is locked away in my works unit...

Also, the number on my manifold is 73TF-9431-CA.. Mine might be an older item??

The one you need is a modified PASSENGER (LH) side manifold from a 2.3 Cologne V6 Cortina. The exhaust runs forwards from the heads on the TVR S, so the manifolds are swapped over from opposite sides.
The pic is of mine from Feb 2012 when I had similar probs .

I don't think Phillpot's ( Granada 2.8 ? )will fit, unless you modify the hockey stick downpipe.

The Cortina one needs the flanges grinding at an angle to wedge shapes to allow the manifold to 'rotate' to clear the chassis.
I'll try to post more pics/ info in the morning.

That diagram is mirror image to the actual S1 layout.
It's the longer one with the cranked portion that's fitted to the driver's side, but it is angled downwards.

Tel, that is the same part no as mine, try eBay or Google & see if anything comes up.

If no results, you can look at Rob( GriffinR )'s joint purchase of stainless manifolds on here. ACT say they do S1's as well as the later 2.9 manifolds. Discounted until 3rd July......

I've rooted about in my garage & found my old manifold, which I had welded up by an expert in case I ever needed it. It needs some work, but could be useable.

The mating faces need a clean-up,
The welded repair has been overlaid with Belzona.
Half a lug has broken off.
But it's the correct part.

This is how TVR modified the Cortina / Taunus ( & early Granada? ) 2.3 V6 exhaust manifold to angle it inwards so it clears the chassis rail.

Tel595 YHM.

apart from any other possible differences the face that mates to the down pipe is convex on mine, as if the sealing ring (19 on parts drawing) is moulded into the manifold.

And i've double checked, it's not just corroded and siezed into place

Ate studs on yours M8, they look quite thin? Mine are M10

That Belzona stuff looks handy, do you remember which one you used Glen?

Hi Mike,
Your manifold is approx 3 cms longer than Terry's & mine, if I remember correctly, also yours has an extra "kink" in the downward leg. I don't know if the downpipe would just need shortening by that amount, or if the angles would also be wrong.
Studs are M10 but after 25 yrs of use.
Dunno which Belzona, the welder just said it's 'molecular metal', & they have used it to repair crankcases & stuff.
