Gents

On the MOT this week the tester picked up a slight amount of play on the steering rack inner ball joints. My local TVR Indi he says that I may have a rack that can be adjusted to take up the slack, has anyone heard of this on the S?

Don't know if this works on the S rack but some racks have shims behind the big nut that holds the ball joint together, removing a shim or two will take out some play.

same principle as Mini balljoints, anyone remember doing them?

Yes but it is more than likely that the suspected ball joint play is actually excessive pinion/rack clearance. Worth trying removal of a shim before committing to a refurb.

Just registering my interest in this! I got an advisory on steering rack play last month, odd as mine was refurbed a couple of years ago!

Had an advisory last year, replaced cv joints on upper and lower part of rack. No joy, then ended up having a replacement rack from a griff along with track ends fitted as the griff rack is stronger....the result? Pin sharp steering....at a cost! However. ..still a load of scuttle shake but guess thats just the car design.
