Chucked my spare out years ago, carry a foot pump and a can of that tyre seal stuff. I have only had one occasion in 40 years driving when changing the wheel at the roadside was the only option. Some new cars these days aren't fitted with a spare.

Maybe not room for a "mega session at Tesco" but what do you want to get in there?I've got tool bag, an "Aldi" boot tidy bag, fire extinguisher, five litre petrol, another little bag with jump leads and tow rope and full size battery in boot there's still room for an "overnight bag, coat and a few bits more!
I don't carry it - agree it takes up too much valuable space.

When I'm using it for work I generally carry a couple of hard cases that aren't squashable and a suit bag - they go in fine without the roof, and would also go in fine without the spare tyre. The boot is so much bigger and more practical than my old MX-5 - without a spare it would be fantastic. i have one of these. whilst not perfect, it is an expensive way of getting some more space. can be on or off in 3 minutes working alone

The cost frightens me - I can't believe the material parts cost that much to warrant the cost (if it's still what i think it is). Happy to be proved wrong and i accept an business is to make profit but my cynical side tells me the mark up is large.
I always carry my spare. Both times I've had a puncture while away from home in 27 years of driving the tyre would not have been repairable with a can of squirty stuff.
Although space is restricted with the wheel in the boot, by using the rear shelf I can still take the roof off and carry enough camping kit for 2 people for a weekend at Le Mans.
Also, if you have breakdown cover check it carefully - I've heard of some policies stating you must carry your spare if one was supplied with the car

Not sure they would know about the S and its standard equipment! It is a risk though, one that I never took with my old MX-5. The irony of course is that if you leave it in when you need the room, you will be loaded up to the gills, and where are you supposed to put the full sized road wheel that comes off the car!? I was thinking of ditching the spacesaver & carrying a couple of cans of squirty stuff, but managed to get everything packed in with the roof off, this was the day before Longers Eurotour to Spa last year.
That evening in Essex, I hit a b
y great pothole which caused a burst tyre & buckled wheel, which would never be fixed with an aerosol.
My spacesaver proved to be a lifesaver, and thanks to that & the excellent job done by Wicked Wheels, I was able to take part in one of the best trips of my life.
Keep the spare, if you're really stuck for space, leave the roof at home.
Better to be wet than stranded!
Incidentally, BarryS1 & I went in his S to Le Man's Classic 2010 with all the camping gear ( incl. two tents! ), spares, tools, food, clothes, & the finest wines known to man, and still had room for the spare & the roof in the boot.
