Hello all,
Just a quick one, i'm thinking about a body off chassis restoration and paint(it doesn't look too bad but I would like it done properly), and perhaps uprate the suspension and brakes on my 290s. Obviously i'm not going to do it myself as I havn't got the facilities, so does anyone have an idea on a ballpark figure of how much this will cost??
I know its not going to be cheap but it would be nice to know it is sorted underneath.

Well mike,
I was thinking of just a body lift and leave all parts on the chassis, is this possible? but now I think about it, it is not going to be a perfect finish, so I think I will have to have another think about this. I wanted discs on back and new callipers on front and perhaps new suspension springs and shock absorbers.

Not really local to Essex but he wasn't local to Redditch either.

Just a thought, can the chassis be cleaned and powder coated whilst still on the vehicle?
See the thing is, it was wax oiled about 9 years ago and looks in pretty good shape, so a clean up and powder coat might be the way to go at the mo.

If you’re going to go to the trouble of taking the body off you might as well do everything properly. Work out how much all the bits will cost, add in labour and then multiply by three. Get an estimate of how long it will take and multiply that by three as well. If you’re going to be paying someone else to do all the work for you then you’d be better off spending that money on a fully restored car that someone else has spent a fortune on. That way it will probably cost you less and you can enjoy it straight away.

Agree with OP I did mine and left as rolling chassis but now wish I'd done the lot. Once body is off the rest is quite simple it's just time. If you have the space I'd suggest you strip and reassemble yourself it'll save thousands

+1 for RT Racing, luckily he's very local to me. He does exchange chassis's I think now but there's always additional jobs best done while the body is off, some that will only become apparent once the body is off.

PM me and I can share you a list of what I ended up having done.

Powder coat needs chassis stripped and clean. It has to go in quite a hot oven to bake the finish on.

If you want to keep the cost reasonable do things that need the body off - outrigger repairs etc.
Things like brake upgrades don't need the body off so could be done at a later date as funds allow.

Weren't David Gerald in Redditch offering refurbed chassis on an exchange basis? Might be easier to just swap parts from the old chassis onto the new one and it wouldn't involve the delay in getting yours refurbed.

is off
