Redex or paraffin
Discussion
Any thoughts on using fuel additives such as redex? I've read on some other forums these are effective but some bright sparks recommend using either paraffin or kerosene as this is the major component of redex. Now I know the car is supposed to go like a bomb but I'm not sure if this taking things a little too literally. Any experiences?
Modern fuels and oils are so good these days you probably don't need to add anything. Back in the good old days you used to have to decoke the head and manifolds every couple of years but these days when you take a head off its usually clean.
When I ran a TR4a in the late 70's I used to spray redex into the inlet till it stalled before laying up for the Winter, then squirt a drop in the plug holes to keep the piston rings free. Filled the street with white smoke the next spring and always seemed to run realy well, but it was probably my imagination.

I always carry a bottle of Redex in the boot of my S2 and always give the tank a slug when I fill up.
Yes modern fuels have cleaning additives but unlike the old leaded 4 star the modern fuel goes off quickly, I had to strip my motorbike carbs as the fuel had turned into a jelly type mess and then last month my newish lawn mower refused to start so stripped the carb down and had the same problem with the fuel now in a jelly type state.
