Hi All, the passenger door has decided not to open from the inside of the car, can anybody give me a clue of what the problem could be. Thank's.

The interior handle pulls a cable that is precision bent to fit a hole in the door lock/catch mechanism.

It could be that this fine example of TVR engineering has un-hooked itself or broken off.

While this one is bent a full 180 degrees the ones on the door cards that replaced these were only bent just over 90 degrees which would let them detach a lot easier wink

Yep - that's most likely it and a right PITA to do it is too.

In fact mine still has a piece of string attached to the exterior rod, inside the door so i can get out.

Must get around to fixing it one day soon...

mine is a little reluctant to open, you have to pull to its extremes !

You may need a friend to help, 3 hands required to refit the panel, one hand and a pair of eyes, to line up the pegs to fit into the door, one to hold the door lock pin so it lines up with the hole in the top of the door card and another to hold the cable under a little tension so it doesn't drop off as you push the panel down over the lugs at the top of the door.
Good luck with that!
If it is just not unlocking, thereby refusing to open, it is possible to see the lock mechanism through the gap at the top of the door, where there is a plastic/rubber plate that fits around the back edge of the door glass at the top of the door panel, that should prise off and with a torch, or in your case bright sunshine you can see some of the links, a spray of WD40 or similar freeing agent may do the trick, if the mechanism has dried out in the heat.

Tape an extension to your knob (!) - I use a short pencil - this will pre-engage with the hole in the top of the door card, and avoid the need for the third hand.

Have fun,

Hi all,
The cable in the passenger's door on my S3 broke, maybe because of rust.
I tried to fix the passenger door opening, not with one but with two friends and I did not succeed.
I bought a piano string I maybe did not bent as it has been written above.
So I went to a garage that charged a couple of hours to fix it, but last Saturday, the door could not be opened.
The plastic piece in which the handle is appears to be maybe changed.
I will have an other look asap but does anyone know from which Audi those plastic piece and handle come from?
At last, is it possible to get a new cable with the right bent somewhere?
Cheers.

Is this the plastic clip you want?

I do not understand why you, your friends and a garage are having such difficulty bending a piece of wire to do the job?

Remember going to the Club anniversary event at Rockingam (2007 ?) with my daughter in my V8S.

Pulled into the BP services on the N bound side of A34 just before the M40 junction....and the rod snapped on the passenger door (needless to say, Emily bursting to use the Ladies!). As we were with a group from Hants Region, and intending to 'do' the Saturday evening social, someone had a metal coat hanger with them. Half an hour removing door card and then altering the coat hanger to fit between the door pull and latch mechanisms had it operational again....Simples!

The repair stayed on the car until I sold it over a year later.

Thanks phillpot, and excuse me if I have not been clear (english is not my native language).
I changed the plastic pieces you sent me the link, because one was broken due to age or gaps of temperature.
No, the piece of plastic I was talking to is the one in the card board, the onein which the metallic door handle is set.
It comes from an Audi, as last time I tried to fix, I notices the 4 rings engraved...
