Hi Guys

I am new, so sorry if this question has been asked before, I have just purchased an S3C which needs lots of work. I let my heart rule my head and jumped right in with both feet, anyway to late now hours of fun ahead.

I can't get the boot to open, I have been told there is a way to do it manually, can anybody tell me how to do it

Cheers

There is a way but first is the ignition on ? And can you hear the solenoid?

Mine sometimes takes a few presses before it pops open also if someone can push the driver side of the boot lid a couple of times that may free things up.

Cheers

If you want to PM me I'll let you have my number and I'll talk you through it. It's not easy smile so as Techbotics says, check the button is working first. By the way, that's quite a rare bonnet you have on your S3C.

Have you checked the fuse and the relay?

Hi Guys

sorry for the delay in answering, but work and family commitments, take president, damn it!!!

The car has been very wet so sprayed the fuse and relays with WD40 and then let them soak for a day or two. Then reseated both, pushed the button and hay presto the boot popped open. So thanks very much.

Only problem then was the 3 inches of water sloshing around in it, so emptied tools out removed spare wheel and proceed to strip all the rotten carpet out, and drain the boot.

Still Had to check the wiring anyway!!!!!!laugh

Sounds like you’ll also need to rod out the drain tubes and probably re-seal them to the drain channel where the lip of the boot lid sits.

agreed v8s4me, already cleaned the grove. pulled one of the drain tubes out to drain the boot, so its on the list, which is getting longer!

Hi Guys,

sorry to revisit this again, but I have started to strip down my S3 to do a body off restoration, however I now can't get the boot open.

I had this problem when I bought the car but a good clean to the fuses and relay, and up she popped, but now all I get is the relay clicking.

Is there another way to get the boot open

Thanks

If the relay is clicking it could just be the spring isnt strong enough . Try pressing the switch while a friend pushes down or pulls up on the lid. If it continues to be a problem do what I did and put a cable pull with a "bonnet release" type handle secreted in the cabin somewhere.

I am surprised you didn't notice the secret way when you had the boot open ? It's not hard to see IF still there? I don't think anyone will post the method here so pm one of us and we will tell. Although unlike other iirc I have never used the method I am familiar with the theory.
