written valuation for insurance.
Discussion
I have just received a really excellent insurance quote from RH classic insurance for my S2 (£114) but they want a written valuation from a "specialist or car club" before they will allow an agreed valuation. I called TVRCC but they don’t give valuations, and my local garage informed me that they do not know enough about old TVRs to give a value. Has anyone any ideas where I might get a written valuation in the Eastbourne, Sussex, area? Any advice will be very greatly appreciated.
A year or more ago I came across a map of the UK showing TVR specialists and independants (guess they're all indies now with no main dealers?).
Unfortunately I can't recall where or how I found it but an hour or two on Google may turn it up or hopefully someone will be along soon to point you at it?
Thanks Phillpot that was quick, Thank you for the advice. I have spent several hours on Google but couldn't find any sort of TVR specialist within a hundred miles. still it often depends on how you word the search so i will persevere and try to find the map. If the worst comes to the worst I will go with market value and hope they treat me fairly if I have to claim.
180 miles Eastbourne to David Gerald (Redditch)... they do valuations
did my Chimaera, only about a tenner a couple of years ago
RH were very fair about "current market value" when I had a little incident in my S.
.....and should the worst happen the salvage is returned to you (if you want it) foc, I believe that with a lot of insurers you have to buy it back (£1000ish ?), in effect reducing the pay-out ?

Austec Racing in Crawley know their TVRs and may be able to help you. Only an hour's drive from Eastbourne.
OR - ditch RH and and go with one of the many other insurers who accept sensible personal valuations under £10k with just a few photos. i'm sure you will find another that is similarly competitive in price. I did - Peter Best.
Good luck!

this isn't the one I was thinking of, one or two entries are a little out of date and it's not necessarily complete but may help find a local (or at least nearest) specialist for agreed valuations, spares, servicing, repairs etc. ?Thanks everyone I will start phoning round on Monday. Thanks for the map Phillpot I see one in Worthing and one in Heathfield both within easy travelling, so they are worth a try. I take your point Barkychoc but this was the best by far. Particularly as it includes recovery and they give you the remains if the car is written off. Adrian Flux quoted me £224 to renew but then knocked a hundred off when I told them I had a cheaper quote. This made me quite cross as they are a broker and I would have expected them to automatically quote the best value available, rather than hope that I would just renew out of inertia without checking. At least there is one advantage to being an old fart – cheap insurance and the time to shop round. Thanks once again everybody for your kind advice.

One of my pet hates too and the main reason I rarely take business out on a price match after they've quoted much higher already. Ask me before they quote and match it, but don't try and have my shirt of my back and then let me have it back!!!! Gassing Station | S Series | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
