Smoking - but not where it should be!

Advice needed. Having done a body off chassis refurb, I’m now trying to get the car back on the road – thought it would be nice and easy reverse of what I removed!! Almost lost the lot as the ignition wiring started smoldering under the dash above the steering column. The wire is (was) the Brown/Purple which is connected to the Yellow coming out of the ignition key barrel. Now need to replace it, but first need to find out why it has just burnt out!! Big snag is I’m unable to trace the colours on Steve Heath’s S-bible or the TVR wiring plan to find out if I have miss-wired something else in the engine bay as the colours don’t match. I labeled pretty much everything when taking it apart so fairly confident engine bay is correct. Could this Brown/Purple be the Green/Pink shown in the wiring diagram in Steve’s book going from Ignition Switch to Radio supply via fuse? If so any ideas as to why it could have been carrying so much current to melt? I know it’s tight behind the radio but could I have shorted it out putting the centre console back in? Engine turns over but wouldn't start before smoke seen.
Close shave I feel. Any thoughts?

I'd take the radio out first to see if there are any clues behind there.

Yellow connector? Something shorting on the wire mesh on the transmission tunnel?

Oooh traced the offending wire back into the radio recess - what a mess. I must have crushed it all when the centre console and radio went back in. Now need to work out how to get the dash off to get to the loom to replace that branch of it. Any advice as to where the bolts are or photos of a dash rear view from either a V8 or S3 appreciated. Even with the steering column out I cannot find anything that would hold it in so firmly. Off to supermarket to get new box of band-aid.
