S1 weight?

Depends how much of the outriggers has rusted away......


You'll probably get a dozen well intentioned but different answers,(dry, oil in sump, fuel in tank,etc.)only way is a trip to a weigh bridge, imho.

Haha, I've fitted new outriggers, the bible states 900kg, that's 40 less than a 2.9, not sure if that's correct. I'm trying to remove some weight, changing seats, radiator, wheels, losing spare wheel and jack, stereo, speakers and a few little bits, if anyone can advise on other areas without going nuts!

If you dont really need the roof there must be many kilos in that, and have a tonneau cover, then drive faster in the rain.
Perspex sliding windows would also lose a lot with the mechanism and glass weighing lots.
Smaller fuel tank maybe?

Most S's gain a lot of weight on the Eurotour, with all the spares we carry, & the fine dining ( and beer! )

PS, Phillpot has drilled lightening holes in his alternator bracket, considerable saving there. It can now be lifted by hand.

Some of those trendy "crystal" headlights are plastic, lighter than glass ? Are your headlamp bowls metal, again plastic would be lighter?

remove the (quite heavy) rubber quarter bumper thingies ?

remove sill step plates ?

Does the car have to remain road legal and weather proof ?

Remove carpet, lose heavy steel shocks (if your still on originals), change seats, do you need a pasenger seat at all ? alloy rad, alloy/ plastic tank, door cards,

Looking at the S, I don't think you will get the weight down enough so as to gain any performance difference, Looking at the S there is not a lot you can remove as its not many extras to remove that will make any difference to outright performance gains.

Answer get a bigger engine with more ponies

If you are looking to make a track car I know there is a lightweight bonnet design for the tuscan S (the car that looks similar to an S with AJP V8) but don't know much more. The bonnet is one bloody heavy lump of fibreglass so there may be a significant gain to be had.
Might be worth a sniff around TVR racing forums.

You could spend a huge amount of money saving weight and compromising comfort, a pro engine rebuild with hot cams ect 2 k ish ? Or what about an LSD £400 ish ? Or can you rebuild the engine yourself just to recapture the horses that have escaped over the years ?

I've changed the cam, doesn't appear to be anything else you can do to the fuel injection....am I wrong
