That car does indeed look fabulous - like new. It gives you an idea of just how lovely it must have been to have an S from new.

That said, as I'm currently hunting for a beautiful S3 (which this most certainly is) the price is somewhat of a disappointment. I haven't got that much !!!

What do we think it will fetch ?

Nice car but WaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaY overpriced.
Quote "bonnet damage in 1992".
Was the damage bad enough to be on the insurance loss register or is this garage/seller being totally honest and upfront, in disclosing a "minor" bump.
If its the latter then thats a first.
Not on the register and a genuine 12,000 miles, and recommisioned properly, then even I "From the dark side" will concede a value around the £12,000 mark.

Anyway if six is not enough and you need eight, .

Looks extremely nice, but I agree with Tom, the dark side is the way to go, sorry chaps.

On another note a 1987 S1 arrived in Sunny Accrington Sunday night. My brother Dave has just bought his new pride and Joy. He has already said he is looking forward to taking it to the next S Club.

On reflection I think I prefer the look of the blue V8 on Pistonheads classifieds. Although that's a bit pricey too !

Nah. I was for quite a while, persuaded by the way of the chimp, but too many about to be exclusive enough. V8S for me and its louder too.

Am I the only one who finds it sad that this car has such a low mileage and has been squirrelled away in a collectors garage for years? My V8S is very much for driving not looking at.

The sound of a V8 above 4,000 rpm pressing on is a pure joy. Sticking it in a garage and looking at it once a week is a crime IMHO.

Hope someone buys it and uses it as it should be used.

I will never understand why S owners always talk down the value of their own cars.

A 21 year old hand built British V8 with 12k miles for £14k ? I guess the point is...try finding another !

No !

Dilema now is do you use it and reduce its value by putting some miles on it or stick it away to bring out only once or twice a year (if weather is perfect)and panic about any little stone chip ?

Or buy a cheaper one a drive it as it was intended wink

How much?! smile

I'm a big S-Series fan, but that's straight Chimaera 500 money, not repaired write-off V8S territory.

You do find a lot of optimistically priced TVRs. When I was looking for S3s they averaged about £5k for a nice S3C and I saw a high mileage S2 for £7.5k at a dealer. I phoned up to enquire (genuinely) how it differed from all of the £4k S2s out there and the seller wasn't the least bit amused...

A V6 TVR "S" is a lovely little car.

A V8s is even better.

But why would you pay more for a V8s than you would for a Chimaera?

Just because of it's rarity?

I could swallow the rarity argument if it was an Aston, but a V8s simply doesn't live in that world.

TVR created the V8s at the end of the "S" model's natural life, in doing so they managed to eek another year or so of extra production out of the old girl before the vastly improved Chimaera came on the scene.

The V8s was always a stopgap while TVR readied themselves & their new design, it was only ever created to buy them a year or so by blending out the old car & blending in the all new vastly improved one.

No doubt lessons were learnt from the V8s that helped the improve the all new Griff & Chim, but even before the V8s was conceived TVR had the new cars planned out on paper.

Every element of the V8s was improved in the Chimaera, suspension, steering, brakes, ergonomics, comfort, handling ect ect.

The end result from the clean sheet of paper approach was a vastly superior car.

I love all TVRs and I certainly don't want to upset anyone here, but why would you pay £13k for a 4.0 litre V8 S when you can bag an immaculate Chimaera (often with a bigger engine) for less?

The Chims & Griffs were the final evolution of TVR cars that combined proven reliable mass manufactured mechanicals with hand made charm & charterer.

As such they represent the best choice for any prospective TVR buyer.

If funds don't stretch to a Chim or Griff, buy a V6s, its still a great little sports car.

But paying more for a V8s than a Chimaera makes no sense at all to me.

I honestly preferred my S3 to the Chimaera overall. But that doesn't alter the fact the market sees it differently.

We all think our TVRs are priceless, but you have to be realistic when selling.

Why would I want to buy something that looks like an MG but has room for golf clubs in the back?

Many have commented that the S is more fun to dive, so if you want a more refined ride then why not go the whole hog and get a Merc SL...and show a complete loss of your soul together with loss of style and individuality smile...come here with your silly comments...Grrr

I would be in a dilema too - I don't think I would pay it to be honest, and nor would I want a car that has to be wrapped in cotton wool.

However, the choice of whether to stay "S" for less money or go "chimp"for more, aside from the lecture which we all get, is often a big question that comes back again and again on here. Many have gone the way of the "chimp" amd lamented the "S" for is raw driving experience, and that extra refinement of the newer cars seems to dent the experience for many. Perhaps its the golf trolley stigma of the chimp? Personally, I was originally drawn to the Chimp as I like its lines, but I don't think I'll ever change the V8S now, as for me, that extra bit of refinement somehow loses something, just like many modern cars. Personal choice, but as you say, we all love TVRs and thats the important bit.
