Hi All,

I've heard talk about a steering bush that goes on the S series?

I've replaced the uppper and lower joints that link the stearing to the rack that normally go through road dirt/grime.

But is there a bush/joint under the dash?

At the weekend I went for a bit of a "hairy" hack which at one point invoved me braking hard into a bend on what I'm sure was an uneven road. The Steering wheel when under this load seemed to judder up and down a bit which made me wonder if something was wrong?

Anyone else experience this?

Cheers,

Dave.

Yep - I too had the same trouble a couple of years back on my old S1. The OE nylon bush takes a hammering and is also put under additional stress as you often use the steering wheel to lean on to lever yourself out of the car! I seem to recall spending much time grovelling in the footwell replacing it with the later version. Definately worth the hassle though. Don't forget to add some sealant around the bush though or you could end up with another leak!!

You can the the bush and housing as a complete kit. I got mine from Peninsular. Fairly straightforward to fit, mine was replacing an earlier knackered one.

I replaced mine with the later bearing version and it fixes the vibration I occasionally got through the wheel. The job is pretty easy apart from undoing the bolts that hold the bearing holder to the bulkhead. If yours are glued captive then you can simply take the nuts off but mine unglued as soon as I touched them so you'll need an assistant to hold the bolt while you take the nut off as you won't be able to reach both.

In a similar vein.. the housing round the indicator stalks that holds the boot release lever on my S never seemed to fit quite right, and then the other day it kind of went all loose at the bottom end, however all the screws seem to be done up.. (I havent got my head in the footwell yes to have a thorough look).. if something has snapped somewhere, what does it come from so I can get a new one.. or is araldite a better option

Cheers
Matt.

I believe it's MKIII Escort (i.e pre 1990)

I have a new kit, with the metal bearing for the later S here, came across it today, no use now as the S has gone. £12 inc postage. If any one wants it email me, or mobile number is 07974 813584.
