Hi all, new to the forum and looking to get my first TVR, (mid life crisis part 2, the first was/is motorbikes but I keep falling off and cracking ribs)
Here in oz we can import a car but it has to be manufactured before 1/1/89. I have seen a few S2's for sale that were first registered in Jan 1989; common sense would dictate that they were manufactured in 1988? Unfortunately when it comes to government department’s common sense doesn’t always come to the fore.

So I’m trying to source some definitive literature regarding manufacture dates for S1 and S2’s; can this be worked out from the vin number? Do they always have a vin number?

Originally form Burnley I always loved the wedges but as we get older our tastes change so the S series is the go for me now! unless a bargain wedge comes up wink

Thanks in advance

Simon

Not sure prior to 2005 the rule used to be older than 15 years, but since then it has been the 1989 rule. The other 2 options are personal imports if you migrate you can bring your car with you or they have to be on the sevs register (specialist vehicles or low volume that were not readily available in oz) which the mini is not on?

If the S Series is not already on the registar can you not apply to have it added?

It would broaden your choice of car rather than having to be a very early one scratchchin

Look at the bottom of the V8S owners list (wiki at the top if the forum) the 8th digit from the right of the chassis number is the year of manufacture.

To get it onto the post 1989 list the car has to meet cuurent ADR requirements (very strick emmision/safety rules) and also have an accredited garage perform the work, they also have to pay a large fee to get them put onto the list in the first place.
