Wheel size

Following on from my wheel refurb thread, I've been thinking about leaving my existing wheels unmolested for now and getting an inexpensive set of different wheels to run round on.

I think I know the standard size is 15 x 7 j with an ET of 35. I'm reluctant to go above 16" diateter to maintain what little ride comfort I have and to stop the brakes looking too small and was expecting to stay at 7" width, but the 'Cheap S1' thread with its 8" wide rims has got me thinking:

How wide can the wheel width go without fouling anything?

It's all about the offset, my steelies have more clearance than my alloys had because they stick out more, I'm sure someone far more intelligent than me will be along shortly

Out of interest, what are your steelies, I was considering getting some cheap wheels for a set of winter tyres.

Correct size is 7 x 15 ET 25

Sorry to jump in on this thread too, but I currently have 15s on front and 16s on back. Does anyone out there run 16s all round without issues?

If I remember correctly mondeo wheels fouled the shocks on the rear

when I fitted bigger brakes my 15" stopped clearing the calipers- In order to pick up from garage I bought some cheap 17" wheels and they fitted fine. I kept them on there in the end as I never got around to getting new ones - it was on the to do list

as it was when crashed - no modifications



Do the chimaera imola alloys fit the S at all?

I have got 16" Imola wheels all round on the V8S. My V8S is one of the later cars that came with the 15" Imola wheels all round as standard (basically, Chimaera 400 fronts) and I have changed them all to the equivalent Chimaera 400 rears. They make it possible to fit bigger brakes (285mm rotors were right on the limit with the original wheels) and also make it possible to fit slightly wide tyres which can be used to improve the handling and grip slightly. The original wheels were ET25 and the bigger ones are ET33 ish.

Thanks Guys - gives me some comfort about changing, as the tyre combo is becoming a nightmare. I believe from previous owner, my rears are Griff 16" and fronts are standard V8 "fake wire" type. Peter, on your 16" imolas, what profile tyres do you have?

They're 225/45 R16. 225 is just about ideal for that rim width.

Which is 7.5" whereas the 15's are 7", yes ?

I can confirm that 17x8 with an ET of 33 fit without fouling the rear suspension ( on the V8S ), I tried a set last night . It's pretty close though.
