Yes thought I reconised the name of the current bidder????
It is absolutly breaking my heart but I just don't have the money to keep it in the condition it deserves ,have thought about storing it for a couple of years but to rent a space is more money , its sat there screaming at me to do all sorts of mods and jobs but despite working 50 hours a week I'm skint and have very little time. It's not sold yet and I won't be giving it away so maybe fate will intervene. If it sells will probably go to one car short list is a clk merc (juicy and costly to fix) an opel manta (rusty but diy maintenance) or maybe a scoobie or skyline any suggestions apreciated .

I know someone who is looking for a good, sorted, cheap, TVR either an S or a Wedge, but I think Cornwall may be a bit to far from Sunny Lancashire.

I've gone to one car subaru legacy estate 2.5i auto. Second one I've had.
Vastly underrated car, limpet grip, reasonable economy early 30's mixed early 40's motorway.
Note auto is better on fuel than manual as it has very tall gearing.
Doesn't draw attention like imprezza.

Can't really fault any of the above for one reason or another - my username probably gives most away from whence I came, but Mantra's are a childhood dream, and I considered SLK's when choosing a w/e toy, but maybe a touch too soft for my liking.

Happy hunting either which way. ;-)

I have my eye on that but from what I can see it needs about 3k to sort it IF the chassis is good. However on my last S1 the chassis looked fine until the body was lifted and revealed it needed a new chassis as it had rotted through at all the attachment points. I think the obvious potential restoration costs will put alot of people off.

Have you got the original indicators?

Is it also an S 1.5 from what I can see in the limited photo's.?? I know only the 2.8 engine but it has the later heater controls. Does it have the ability to lock it from the inside?

It is a late s1 and the chassis is fine I am confident the outriggers have been done at some point, and it will pass its next mot easy. to be honest I would rather not get in to a disscussion about it on here but I will happily answer any questions via ebay, I consider it to be a rolling project and it is priced accordingly, I would also appreciate any negative comments or opinions you may have stay off the forum

Shipping it out to Oz ?

3000 is very subjective, how "good" do you want to get it? How much can you do yourself? If you can put up with some paint work faults it could be a bargain for having a thrash around on a early Sunday morning wink

And a supposedly Ok car for 3000 - 4000 could well end up needing quite a bit spent on it scratchchin

I have know idea what reserve Mike has on it but hope he gets a fair price for it.

Now that to me is a good car, a go car not a show car. Not much point in having one if it spends half the year in the garage. Needs to be driving

Id never said anything negative, all I stated was fact.

You just cannot guarantee the chassis is in good condition without taking off the body- the last one I had was waxoyled every year but still needed a new chassis- I swallowed that as I should have checked better myself.
I paid five years ago £2500 for a respray not including paint which I supplied myself. This is the rough cost for someone that knows what they are doing to get rid of the fibreglass cracks and inject them with the resin stuff and do a decent job. I have no idea how much today but I doubt much more.

My lotus was resprayed before I bought it in February and its a terrible job and that was £3k.

A set of wheels will set you back about £400 with tyres so to make it look presentable- so its at least £3k to do a proper job and get this beautiful car looking how it should.

I will never slag any S type off, despite owning many TVR's and other supercars it is one of my favourites and was my first foray into owning a sportscar- I love them. If I bought it, it would be mint - used regularly but mint as are my other cars.

No it wouldnt leave the UK- I have a mint Chimaera already and they are british sports cars to be kept in britain. Although I did look at a Tuscan S today in Oz lol

James, with the greatest respect I would suggest my s is not for you. I hear what you are saying and that is fine , I would activly encourage anyone who wanted to buy any tvr firstly to do there homework ( as I did ) and secondly look at the car before handing over any money, I will happily discuss what I know about the chassis with any potential buyers. I think this car represents a good opertynity for anyone on a smaller budget to join the tvr family. I guess it depends what's important to you , I couldn't afford indicator lenses so I made my own, I had alloy problems and couldn't afford a new set so I got steelies , the seats were knackered so I went to a scrap yard, personally if I had 3k to spend on any car alloys and paint would not be a priority

thats where you are wrong, for me personally it was about buying a beaten used car and restoring it, Mine was ready for the scrap heap. It ended up a beautiful S with a custom cosworth conversion. I did alot of the work myself but paid out for the engine conversion, paint job and electrics. For me it was a keeper so I spent alot of cash on it - probably over 17k at last count. It got written off by someone else, I got 14k back so was upset obviously but put the money towards emigration and a wedding. Still always wanted another one to work my magic on.

James - I agree yours was ready for the scrap heap - I had to renew the outriggers as they were rusted through and basically nothing left of the seatbelt mounts. Shockers/springs were soft and rusted (adjusters seized). Seats needed repadding and recovering. The only good parts were the body tub and the roof - so looked fine from the outside. But hey .....I bought unseen and took the risk.

Good luck with the sale. I suspect of you got a Manta you'd not be a whole lot "better off" than you would be sticking with the S, they're all "old" now so you'd either be buying a rolling restoration or paying good money for a tidy one.

Scoobies are good cars (bit of a weak spot with the woodruff key holding the bottom pulley on but no more than any other car of similar performance really).

I've always fancied a Skyline, but finding an "unmolested" one will be a challenge.

How about a nice simple MX5? Easy to work on, relaible, cheap and nice looking. Not exactly "fast" but how important is that? The same goes for a Z3...

I'd stick clear of Audi TTs, we bought one earlier this year and I'm glad it has a warranty!

So the cost of a total resto didn't put you off ? the point is its for sale if it sells the new owner can drive it as is or completly restore it . if the reserve is not met I will disconnect the battery and put a tarp on it and mot it in spring
