How do I disconnect the fuel line into my 2.9i in my s3? It looks like a push on fit plastic thing with a red band around it. How do I remove that without breaking it?

Thanks,

Mark

Sounds like a mobilec oil/fuel fitting. The red band is a collar at the end to make it look pretty. They are push on and may pull off but if you do this use a jubilee clip as they may leak afterwards. I tend to traet them as a fit once type of fitting.

It plugs into what I believe is a regulator which seems to be bolted into what I think is the fuel distributor. Can I just unbolt the regulator from the distributor... is that easier?

When you say treat it as a fit once type fitting does that mean you would just cut the thing off and fit a new one or would you then take the resulting pipe end and attach that to the regulator with a jubilee clip? The end plastic thing with the red collar seems to be part of the pipe so I can imagine that I could buy an end and fit that to my pipe and then fit that to the engine if you see what I mean.

Also, in your bible you say the easiest way to remove the propshaft is to unbolt it from the diff. I did this but there is insufficient clearance to slide the prop from the gearbox. If I support the prop with wire or something will it simply slide out of the back of the gearbox as I pull the engine and box forward or is there some method of retention holding the propshaft in the gearbox?

Thanks,

Mark

Mark, I just unbolted the regulator from the distributor, it did seem the easy thing to do. Like you, I didnt want to brake those red connectors.

As for the prop, I had an extra pair of hands and we took both out together very carfully so the prop didnt slip out the back of the gearbox with all the oil.

When you've got the pair of them out you can stand the gearbox up on it's end and let it drain overnight in a bowl/bucket.

The gearbox rear seal is only about £8, worth replacing it while it's all out.

Cheers,

Dave.
