Mk.1 electric mirrors are very smart (had them on my Mk.1 MX-5!) but not sure if the angles would work...
Mk.2 and on mirrors are a bit more angular and I don't think they would look very good, no idea if they would fit.

I just bought a pair of new Mk1 MX5 mirrors - they certainly are lightweight! I was expecting them to weigh at least twice as much as they do so I don't have any real concerns about fitting them at all now...
Mk1 MX5 mirrors have 2 base sizes - I went for the larger one to give it more of a chance to cover the hole that'll be left when I remove the current socket..

The mirrors that have arrived are manufactured by a company called I.L. Motorsport in Cologne, Germany so they are clearly not OEM Mazda (which is what I'd expected) but they are really, really lightweight so TBH for what I want they are better..
Plus the internal screw is stainless (a issue with OEM mirrors is that they are not and they corrode & snap)

Mk 1 MX5 are fine but must be MANUAL! The issue is that the electrically operated mirrors do not have enough travel to get the body of the mirror at the right angle to look right. If you try to mount the 'electric' mirrors over the old mirror mounting point on the S, the body of the mirror sticks up at too much of an angle. The manual mirror has much more movement and can be angled down more and looks right. I know, I tried!
Remember when you buy a Mk1 manual pair they will be quite old and the spring mechanism is likely to be corroded. They will need some restoration....hence the adverts for a new stainless bolt and spring on ebay. You need to get the glass out to get at the pivot. I have found that the glass will probably have been replaced at some time and the seal bonded in so it takes a little bit of care to free the glass.
