Standard Ford are okay. Motorcraft leads usually last a couple of years.

Standard Motorcraft 8mm leads.....

Another tip is to get rid of the dizzy cap suppressor and ht extension plugs. This helps get a better spark aswell.

Thanks guys. A standard Ford set it is then.

With any luck this will cure the problem. In reality what I seem to have is like a slight mis-fire, but only at c.2000 rpm. I am wondering if this could be something more serious, like a sticky exhaust valve for instance.

Any one have any experience of this is the S? I have always thought the engines to be pretty robust, but anthing's possible. Any ideas without actually listening for yourselves!

It could be plugs, leads or even throttle pot!

I have it at 3500 rpm sometimes.. I think its the TP as I've been all over the wiring, changed leads and plugs, and had a hunt about for any other obvious stuff... Standard Ford leads and Plugs seem just fine to me.. in fact the tapered plugs seemd to improve things over the NGK's I took out (could be my imagination ).. RM Carspares wil do a set of leads at a very ggod price, mail order off the net as well as other bits and bobs: www.rmcarspares.co.uk/

Cheers
Matt.

Thanks, Matt. At least someone's experiencing the same problem. It's easy to think you're imagining it. Actually I changed the HT Leads at the weekend (a set from the local motorists discount centre fitted, if not awfully well - too much slack) and guess what?..... No change whatsoever! My inclination is towards the throttle pot, if only because nothing else makes sense, apart from something serious like a valve spring or the like.

As it's only recently been serviced, I might take it back to where it was serviced and take up the offer of a (would that be free?) engine diagnosis.

Throttle pot faults don't always show up on the star test, (Ford ECU diagnostic system). They usually need to be tested separately to be sure.
