Hello everyone, I need to bleed the brakes and have found out that one of the front bleed nipples is badly rounded and siezed. I've been soaking all week with WD40 but even it comes out I need to replace it.

Are these avaliable as a separate item? Does anyone have a size or spec' I can search for?

Thanks,

Steve

As you can get OEM quality front calipers for around £27 I think I'd be inclined to swap it out as a unit...

once you have it out then take it to any motorfactors and they will match it - they are only pennies too

Try something like this.

Should be avaialable from your local motor factor where you get the new beeld nipple.

Thank you for the advice gents. I've ordered the stud removal kit in case all else fails.

My local garage has a load of original stuff in boxes marked 'might come in useful one day' so I'll pop in there as they've been very helpful in the past with odd bits and pieces.

As said, virtually standard metric bleed nipple, most Motor factors have those little blister packs of useful bits, should be amongst them.

WD40 is not a good penetrating oil (imho) use "Plus Gas" or similar but if it just siezed tight rather than rusted up I doubt any amount of soaking will help.

What have you tried un-doing it with? is it too badly rounded for a single hex socket to grip?

If it is really badly rounded but not snapped off something like this might work?

But before buying/borrowing them I'd try a decent pair of "Mole grips" (not £3.99 Sunday market ones). Looking at one of my spare calipers access is pretty good, clamp 'em up as tight as you possibly can, I'd be surprised if it didn't crack loose then just spin out.

ETA the stud removal kit in Joe's link is no good to you unless you snap the top of (unlikely if you can't get a grip of it) and/or drill a hole down it for the extractor to go into... swarf + brake seals = bad idea scratchchin

Good point. I'd assumed you'd got to the stage where you're going to be stripping it on the bench to use the stud remover. If it come to this get a seal kit and clean out the whole thing as per Phillpot's comment.

Try some "MOS" oil, let it work for a few min and heat if not working put more MOS on and wait for a few hours and redo it.
Worse that can happen is that you snap the nipple and you need to buy a new caliper, standard ford so not so costy

When I tried my brake pipe spanner it slipped around very easily. It was fine on all of the other nipples but this one is damaged.

I plan to give the mole grips a go this week. My Nan worked in the factory in Newport that made them so I have a good set!
