what is a star tester used for?
Despite being its "gaurdian" I have not actually tried using it yet.Basically it plugs into a little socket in the cars wiring loom somewhere near the ECU and via a series of tests and results (displayed as code numbers) detects faults in the engine management system, I think !
This is a cheaper, more basic unit, the codes are displayed by a flashing led, the different sequences of flashing can be a little tricky to detect I'm told?

yep does the job a treat used it twice not very user friendly but if you follow the instructions works fineBasically it plugs into a little socket in the cars wiring loom somewhere near the ECU and via a series of tests and results (displayed as code numbers) detects faults in the engine management system, I think !
I used it couple of years ago and showed up an AFM fault, cleaned the sensors up and it ran considerably better but still shows fault so it did point me in the right direction.
It should be said that the star tester was kindly donated to the S group/forum originally by Graham(harry1972m), former s owner who sadly turned to the dark side in the quest for Tardis like space. How's the golf coming along mate.
