New Battery Cable Routing
Discussion
Torrential rain, no jacket, no mobile and a dead car tonight outside Homebase! When the recovery man arrived and I expalined the battey was in the boot and the boot is electrical, we both had no idea what to do. So then a call back home to look through the S book and we connected up the alternator to power and bob's your uncle enough power to operate the boot solenoid.
That's when we deiscovered the positive battery cable was broken, about 1cm from the clamp.
Has anyone got experience of replacing the main battery cable on an S4 (or V8S which also has the battery in the boot)?
It could be a big job having to route a new cable all the way from the boot through the car. Is there any way to extend the cable onto anew clamp?
Cheers.

The quickest way would and probably the best way without re-routing would be to crimp / solder lugs onto the two broken ends and bolt them together with some electrical cintact grease in between the lugs and then put some electricail tape around them.

I don't know about yours but I'm pretty sure I have enough slack in mine to remake the last inch if I had to and probably another six inches again. Have you looked to see if there is enough slack hidden away under the carpet going over the wheel arch? Sound's a bit cruel but the carpet is just stuck down with glue and comes up quite easily. I'm not sure what type glue is required to put it back, but I seem to remember a previous thread for sticking down the carpet if you do a search.
Good luck let us know how you get on if does need to be re-run, rather you than moi.

Re the soldering versus crimping suggestion, if you do go down this route, don't solder, as it will fail again possibly leading to overheating of the joint and all that could entail
Where vibration is concerned i.e. in cars/aircraft/submarines crimp the joints only.
Obviously all IMHO.

Yah harry i meant both solder the wires together then crimp and also solder them into the lugs then crimp as this should help corrosion between diffrent metals.
