New to TVR Ownership

I took delivery of my 1988 TVR S1 on Friday evening and have been thoroughly enjoying the weekend weather.
The car (E386JLN) seems to have been lowered from stock (most noticeable because the bonnet will not open far enough for the stay to reach the hole, but also as it grounds out even sooner than I'd expected). No big deal, I drilled a new hole for the stay and I'll just turn the stereo up LOL
Reading through some of the posts it seems the car runs a little hotter than I'd like. It hovers just above the white line on the temperature gauge....until yesterday when it went up into the red and just as I stopped it boiled over.
It's typical but it happened just as I rolled up to my friend's house for a BBQ and they all came out to see their opinion of TVRs being justified LOL
I think it's just the otter switch as the fan seemed "reluctant" to come on. I shorted the contacts and drove home (~50 miles) and the temperature stayed at a constant 90... Perfect..
I've ordered a Kenlowe electronic thermostat and I'll fit that this weekend, I just thought it was amusing that my first introduction of the car to my friends involved arriving in a screen of steam and coolant LOL
The forumseems full of good information so hopefully I will be able to read and absorb the info :-)

Welcome to TVR ownership with all it ups and downs. Belive me the ups far out weigh the downs. Your mates may have an opinion on tivs but I bet they were jealious, even if they refused to show it. I bet they dont have so much fun out of a car which cost the same as an S1. Happy to have you aboard, owning it is as much fun as driving it! Anything you ever want to know can be found on this super forum.

Yes they were indeed a little jealous and they're great mates so they all pitched in to offer consolation and drinks whilst the car cooled, then supplied the coolant and wire to bridge the fan.
I'm fortunate that my friends are so cool, but then again if they weren't they probably wouldn't be my friends LOL
Even the ribbing they gave was a little subdued as they were too busy taking turns attempting to get in (and out) of the car gracefully (I don't think it's possible LOL).

The car has had a LOT of money spent on it in the last 2 years including 4 new shocks & springs and a full stainless exhaust (and petrol tank, radiator, stater motor, alternator, distributor, door hinge pins etc, etc)
Unfortunately the springs lower the car even more than stock and the exhaust hangs a little low too, although it is all solid and very pretty.
It's no biggie, I'm just a bit careful on bumpy roads :-)
I did manage to get the car stuck on a kerb and had to ask 4 very nice men to lift it up while I reversed off but that was poor judgement on my part not a fault with the car LOL
