Corrado Mirrors

Rabbit Ears, eh? They really have to go - the trouble is, as much as I really like the CX mirrors they tend to reach ridiculous prices on Ebay. MX-5 mirrors? Yes, I'm sure they're a massive improvement in terms of function but I'm not sure they look "right".

As Corrado mirrors were used on a few TVR's I wondered if anyone had fitted them to an S and how much aggro it was/wasn't to fit them. Pics would be a bonus.

Hi Neil, I've got a couple of Corrado mirrors sitting in the cupboard waiting to be fitted.

I have figured out the wiring and have a switch but I just need to figure out how to attach them.

If you attach them directly they would look like they were drooping quite badly so need an adapter/spacer to make them sit straight. I have some 'clay' I was going to make them out of but I haven't figured out what shape they should be yet. The clay stuff I have is actually epoxy, 2 different pots you mix together to give a gooey clay like substance that you can mould to shape an leave to set. really solid stuff but I need a mould or pattern to make the part from.

Currently making a mock up out of balsa wood but haven't got very far with that what with getting the suspension sorted and the engine running!

Have you thought about Mk.1 MX-5 electric mirrors? Look much better than the manual ones, cheap too.

I looked at the corrado mirrors some time ago and I also have a pair sat on the shelf in the garage. It seems we have stumbled at the same hurdle in working out how to fix them. I did start looking at the later TVR models, the T350 I think, which has adaptors between the mirror and the door. I wondered if I could get hold of these and do something with them ? They at least would have given me the necessary profile to resin cast some new ones. I too have an array of finely whittled pine scattered around the garage in the general shape of mirror supports !

The other concern I had was the strength of the door. The more length and weight on the mirror, the more stress will be exerted on the door panel..................

I went for mx5 mk1 but in manual form because they are so light and look pretty good too. Only I drive my car so adjusting not a problem once in the right position.

my initial plan was a pair of bmw mini mirrors which look great but were very heavy probably because of the motors etc.. Hence my shift to the mx5 any electric mirror will be heavy but if fitted well shouldn't damage the door.

I was worried about the weight a bit too. I like the idea of those stud wall fixings from Screwfix someone posted up but I keep thinking the massive hole that is left by the current mirror mounting can't help the structural rigidity. I really need to take a mirror off and come up with a plan but have to do Spa first.
