Replacement Water Pump

Hi all,

I need to replace the water pump on my S2 2.9 V6. Am I right in thinking that this is the same as the Granada Scorpio pump...sorry to be a pain but the search is down and I was hoping someone will know straight off....I have seen a couple on fleabay and was going to order one !

That ebay item in the OP is the correct part - it will fit.

You take your chances on "pattern part" quality and durability (having said that, I bought my replacement pump on ebay a few years ago and it's still going strong)

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies....much appreciated....I will get one ordered ! My pump is not leaking but my god is it noisy, I know its not the alternator and when I took off the drive belt the noise disappeared.

Fitted the Europarts water pump on Friday (it comes with gasket). No problems fitting, apart from a sheared off bolt whilst removing the old one.

Under £70 and so far, a very good part.....

The part number is 201560305 - £68.40

Fitted a Firtsline FW1404 yesterday no problems at all it certainly sounds better than the one that came off. My god what a noise that one made, no play in the bearing and no leaks but when you spin it by hand now itsoff it is sooooo rough !

Just need to sort out main beam on the headlights and rear fogs now (any ideas) and then should be nearly BOR after a year...cant wait !

Any clues to what the headlight problem is? It could be the fuse, the switch, the connector(s) beside the bonnet hinges, or at the lights themselves. If both are not working, I'd be checking the fuse and switch first. You need to get in there with a meter or test lamp and find out if power is reaching the switch, and then if the switch is actually making the circuit when you move it.

Rear Fogs - similarly, you need to find out how far along the circuit power is getting. I had this very problem only last week, if you look at my website at http://www.tvrgit.com and the diary entry for Friday (11 May) you'll see that in my case, after dismantling half the interior to get to the switch to test it, it was corrosion inside the switch - dismantle switch, clean that up and all sorted!

Hi all - resurrecting this as I'm going to buy a replacement water pump as I'm still not 100% with my cooling system and I'd rather swap bits in a controlled way rather than in a French motel car park like a certain Stevej

so, is there any great difference in quality to the units listed in this thread?

Thanks for resurrecting this Scoobimax, I went for a New Years Day drive yesterday, and was reminded instantly that my water pump is screeching like a banchee! Plus I can pull the pulley forward and backwards (noted check from a previous thread).

I have tried to ignore the noise, but when it starts impacting on my enjoyment of Exhaust Note, it is time to act.

I eagerly await feedback regarding which is the 'better' spare to fit.

Just a point to beware, the 2.9 has an alloy housing behind the water pump that covers the timing chain and has one of the water outlets as a part of it, this part is discontinued by Ford, although listed in the catalogue at around £70 I could not get one. Ended up buying a secondhand engine complete, to obtain one. The water pump itself was no problem at all but the housing outlet was cracked, but changed it at the same time.

I had no issues with Firstline....but have not really done enough mileage to judge reliability...probably they do all come from the same source as tooling up for production for a limited supply would be expensive.....even if its only the casting which is made in one place and bearings etc are fitted by individual suppliers..

The only issue to be careful of is bolt removal some are tight and corroded and because they are corroded they have their cross sectional area thinned ...so caution is needed.
