It is a TVR special but easy to get hold off.It is also bonded in and beyond the scope of most owners (there will always be one who is a screen fitter ) to handle. Normally a claim on the insurance.

I think I have posted this somewhere before but it is a modified Capri screen, the modification is the etched black band around the outside edge, the Capri doesn't need this as it has a rubber seal around the outside. It's simply there to tidy the edge up on the S series.A cheap way of doing it is to buy a Capri screen and paint a black band around the outside (as the previous owner did on my car!), I paid about £460 for my new one which has the green top tint, this was from Autoglass

Cheers

P.S have a look at an 80's Capri windscreen, I didn't believe it at first but it is very obvious!!

Just thought i'd stick my oar in, when I had mine replaced, Autoglass told me it was a Cortina screen. They even went to the trouble of getting me one with a colour tinted sunstrip! Apparently they do need to be modified slightly, Autoglass ground the edges slightly in order for it to fit into the surround.

....One more on the subject for luck. When Autoglass did my old S3 they said it was "definately from a Capri" and offerred me the choice of clear screen or with a green band. It took 'em best part of a Saturday to fit but it only cost me itro £200 (about 6 months ago). That said they did nick the dash slightly - as per the warning in Steve's book.....

Same company insisted that the screen for my 520 was definitely the same as that from a 3000M/Capri. I pointed out as the 520 screen was flat I didn't think it was possible unless they had a powerful heat gun but was told that their computer system was the last word on the subject... It wasn't....

So it is a Capri screen except that the tinting is different and you might need to grind the glass a little. Maybe it is the grinding that causes the delamination by damaging the edge. Could also explain why some screens don't seem to fit too much.

It also means to me that it is a TVR special but someone overstocked on Capri windscreens that cost about £60 and sell them to TVR drivers as the real thing for a lot more...

I suppose it is possible that in the 1970's / early 1980's Ford used the same screen on different cars, which would explain the difference of opinions.

Jas.

P.S. That delaminating screen explanation sounds very plausable though.
