Suggest you ask your supplier, I suspect they would know. If you're only doing ignition then all you really need to worry about is mechanically mounting the trigger wheel and pickup, and I doubt that would cause any trouble for somebody with your capabilities.

See where it says "If your engine isn't listed plesse contact us"? That.

They might be different - the 28 doesn't have electronic fuel injection controlled by the ecu - I don't know if the 2.8 ecu also uses as many other input signals as the 2.9.

Do you have a problem with the setup you have? Weak spark, misfire, what? There might be a more fundamental way to cure the problem (or you might spend all that money and not solve it, if your problem is elsewhere).

Seems to like eating coils, and with a seperate, mappable ECU, more power is possible. And power = good. ;-)

Fitting EDIS to a 2.8 or 2.9 is not much work, you will need a crank trigger wheel, most are 36:1, a coil pack either a Edis 6 or something like LS1 coils. last thing is the ECU, if you go with Megasquirt and use the Megajolt system the software is easy to setup and easy to download from the Internet.

If I were you I'd get the full MegaSquirt hardware now even if if you only plan to use it for ignition at first. You know darned well you're going to want to fix the fuelling as well eventually, and by the time you've got mapped ignition you're 90% of the way to mapped fuelling too.

Yes must agree with Peter on this might as well go for the full system, I got mine from the US in kit form, built it up from easy to follow instructions, I think it took about 4 weeks on and off to solder all the bits. I think the new kits are much better as I did mine about 6 years ago, you can go and buy something ready to install and run but where is the fun in that.

Newest megasquirt is SMD so soldering yourself is a little difficult unless you have a reflow solder oven!

I was looking at putting a megasquirt on mine in the distant future. Sounds like a challenge

There are other ECU's out there Omex, Wolf 500, Haltec and many others to pick from. The SMD is just a built ms11 with jumpers on it.

MS3 is probably a step too far. MS2 will suit Nicks needs. Best to contact Phil at ExtraEFI. He will supply exactly whats required. Nicks boffin friend can help him fit and wire it all up properly.
