Special Tool Needed - anyone have one?

Stripping the engine today ready to take it out and trying to remove the fuel line from the back pressure valve I cannot see how it comes off so I revert to Haynes. The Haynes manual says there is a special ford tool for this (or use a suitable pair of pliers) to insert into the holes and release the coupling. However I can't get plier to work at all, hence does anyone have the tool I could borrow or know of a better way to do this

Mark, do you have the pressed steel fuel rail or the cast alluminium ?

I have a steel one in the garage and connection onto fuel regulator looks like it would be just a hose clip so guesss Alluminium?

That's what I have on my car (but its not here). I'd guess its a "John Guest" type fitting?

Should be just a matter of pushing the little collar in and pulling pipe out (they can be tight)?




ETA just seem "bmbjmh" post, never seen a tool like that! didn't have or need one when I took mine apart, but of course, mine could be different.

That is definately the tool (part number matches that listed in Haynes manual). If anyone has one would be good to borrow, although now I can see it I may be able to make one up using nails and wood or shaped piece of metal (tried circlip pliers that look a bit like that but they didn't work)

Having seen the tool now I suspect the coupling is like the one in your photo but the release collar has a shroud over it with two very small holes to allow the tool to go through and depress the collar. Without seeing the tool I didn't want to force it an damage the coupling.

Anyway top end all stripped off now ready to remove bonnet, radiator and other bits then lift block out next weekend. No signs of any damage yet though and the head gaskets looked good so still not sure what is caising all the smoke and poor running. Internals look remarkabbly clean for a 170K car with very little wear. Anyway major overhaul started now so no turning back.

Thinking about it, I suspect that tool does no more than click a protective cover off to give access to the fitting itself?

The collar is not essential just helps protect against "accidental" release of the fitting, we use some (like in this picture) at work and flip 'em off with a little screwdriver.
