I found myself on ebay looking for a second hand pair of wheels to use on trackdays. I'm not sure I have a good reason for getting them, but you know how it is smile I'm trying to justify it to myself by assuming they will be lighter, I can get more grip ( by resizing ) and I dont have to worry about driving home with illegal tyres. However, I've found myself worrying about how they look so the truth is probably something else. Eitherway - these are some options....

The first is a standard picture I found which I think are original Oz split rims. Can't get hold of these but this is what all-silver BBS will look like. Pic 2 are Compomotive 5 spoke which come up secondhand in various states of repair. Third are BBS-RMs with black inside, which I think look great but don't know if they're any good. The last are Team dynamics which again come up cheap on ebay.

Anyone have any experience of these or others ? I'm tending towards the Compomotive 5 spoke.

( Apologies for dodgy 'Paint' work. I'm too cheap to buy Photoshop )

I like the look of the Compomotives in pic 2 also followed by the Team Dynamics in pic 4. If I had the spare cash I'd also be looking more closely at the 4-stud 16" Spyders which are gathering momentum on another TVR forum (previously posted here). Shame I've got a list of other bits to do of higher priority than good looking wheels.

when I had my S3c I always hated the std wheels, so I invested in some 16" compomotive MO 6 spoke in anthracite which looked like this...

I went for some budget Hankooks 205/50/16 and they were brilliant, even on the track.

Cheers.....Tony..

Yes, I did see the 4 stud Spider group buy - but I was under they impression they weren't that strong ? Maybe it's just the originals. Anwyay, the plan was to buy secondhand.

Oooh, now they're nice. Don't suppose you have a square on shot so I can use my astounding graphical manipulation skills ? Did you compare weight with the originals ?

If you intend to swap the wheels before driving home how will you carry a spare set - will you be trailering your S to the track or taking a support vehicle?

She seems to encourage it. Mind you, she was also very interested in my life insurance situation scratchchin

If you're only going for a pair and purely for use on track do looks really matter? scratchchin

Are they for front or rear? I've only yet done one track day and that was at Curborough, a small sprint course, fronts took a lot more stick than the rears.

My reasons for spending money on the car are never very logical. I've convinced myself it will improve performance but I'm a lousy driver so will probabaly not notice the difference. I reserve the right to keep up this pretence though. In this delusion looks are secondary but will still be considered. smile

Was going for all four if I can get them at a good price. The Compos in the picture are £200.

I love the comp 5 and 6 spokes... For track day they should be 8" wide 16's IMHO and of course bright orange with toyo 888's fitted.

I have looked myself and 2nd hand ones typically seem to be the wrong offset and I dislike the idea of spacers.

good luck lets see what you end up with.

thanks Damian S3

Yes, the offset is a bit of a pain. They seem to be normally around 35-40 for 4x108 pattern. Interesting you say 16x 8 rims. Is the 8'' rim to fit 225 rubber ? I think maximum for 7'' is 215 ?

They are the colour the bloke on ebay selling them had them in smile Slightly darker than the compomotives pictured above.

They're 17x8 et30 on the back, 27 on the front (being useless and not spending time to research properly and measure things I got a set of them in et30, ideal for a sierra but not quite for a TVR, so I have 3mm shims on the front) I have toyo r888s on them in I think 225/45/17 but they've been hiding for the winter so can't check.
