I’m sure this one has be done to death, so I apologies for this, but I’m looking for some definitive info re the breaking system on the S to pass on to a supplier regarding Metric and Imperial fitting. I was under the impression that the system on all S’s is Metric fittings to the front half of the car and Imperial to the rear half from the 3-way-union [excluding the male connectors to the brake cylinders/callipers].

Most suppliers I speak to think it’s metric from front to back and it take them a little convincing that this is not the case.

I’m also discovering that TVR were a bit ‘waste not want not’ when it came to building an S so I can’t argue.

Thanks

Nigel

There have been lots of posts on this and I think that some cars may have metric all round, but most seem to have imperial unions on the rear flexible pipes. It is possible that some cars may have had their rear pipes changed to metric fittings in the past. I am going through the same process on my car and the safest way is to look at the relevant fittings on your car.

I have found this to help with visual identification:

http://www.reedx.net/landrover/maint/brakefittings...

with acknowledgement to the person who put this together.

The different shapes of the female unions at the bottom of the picture are distinct and the metric one has the small nicks in the hexagon.

As you have a TVR nothing is set in stone!

Hope this helps
Cheers

Looking again at the link I have just posted PLEASE TREAT WITH CAUTION!!! I think that they may have the two female unions in the wrong column - as the one in the imperial column looks like metric to me!

The metric and imperial threads are very close in tpi and care is needed.

OE for the car on all I have seen is the T connector at the rear of the car near the diff and the inboard flexible hoses are imperial with the corresponding connections to them. Everything else was metric.

Be careful etc etc, we are talking brakes and TVR here.

Tony, Chris

Thanks for the help, now have new flexible and copper pipes with the right connections [that also match Chris’ configuration] ready for fitting.
