Hi All

I'm a new proud owner of a 1988 S1 and have started going through the car tuning, repairing and generaly inproving things,as i'm sure all new owners do.

Please take a look at the photo and advise me if anyone can identify the part that looks to be missing. Its the white cap held on with insulating tape on the air sensor cover.

Thanks

Thanks Barry

I'll make a better job of the stopper.

I've already had the Multiplugs under the washer bottle fall apart due to being rotten stopping the engone from starting and while trying to find a missfire i,ve discovered the dissy cap centre pin broken off. All this and i've not even taken the wheels off yet. However the cars Brill

That hole is also blanked off on my S1, first registered in June 1988. Looks like our cars will be pretty similar. Done a fair bit of work on mine, although it is still a 'rolling restoration' so might be able to help if you are stuck. Matter of interest, where are you? I am near Preston, Lancs.

hi
Just down the m6 a bit near Stafford & nice to hear from another S1 owner. My son and myself have just got the car a couple of weeks ago and we are just starting to tinker with it. It came with an MOT but its due to run out at the end of the month. hopefully it will pass ok fingers crossed. We drove it back from Bath in heavy rain and it never missed a beat at a steady 70-80.

If you have a look at the last post here you can see the original insert on the airflow meter that blocks that hole:

Hi, I'm also an S1 owner, living in Stockport, just up the road from you. There is also another Stockport S1 owner keeping a low profile (Murchman). I've been watching Ebay & I presume you bought the White one? I'm sure you won't regret it, no other car gives so many smiles per mile! I recently had to drive 215 miles because we were getting very low on white pepper! Trouble is, I forgot what I went out for!!! biggrin
FYI My aperture is also blanked off.
Did you experience any leaks on the way home from Bath? ie "S Leg"?
Also Please let us know how the MOT test goes.

Not sure what S leg means but i did get a wet throttle foot due to a leaking grommit i think. The only other leak was a bit on the bottom of the doors.
As for the MOT I've just replaced the lower steeing column bush and the rear brakes need new shoes. Got them but yet to fit. The track rod ends could also do with being replaced as boots are torn, no play though. Once the MOT's done i need to sort the engine out as it doesen't feel as its pulling as it should and i sense a underlaying missfire. The TVR can't keep up with my 2.3 Saab turbo. (175 BHP but very heavy)

Hi again, I have family in Birmingham and Uttoxeter so I am often passing close to you. I will send you a message some time and see if I would be welcome to call in. Hope all goes well for the MOT.
I used to own a Grantura so I was determined to have a TVR as a retirement present to myself! Decided however that I wanted to do it the hard way and bring an S 'back from the dead'. Well it is very much alive now! It is however currently having a bit of a sleep while the rolling restoration goes on....took the dash out in January to improve a number of issues and I havent been able to progress it as fast as I would like. I am however getting to know every nook and cranny of the car....intimately!
S leg is an uncomfortable malady involving the chronic attraction of the right driving leg to water. Usually associated with a leak on the offside bonnet catch mechanism but can arise from a number of other points. Happens in most of the S series but worst in ours as we do not have as much in the way of wheelarch liners so the water does put itself about a bit!
Good to hear about the Manchester area cars as well....S1 Club???

Hi, I arrived at the NEC Classic Car Show with a bad case of S Leg, duly diagnosed by the lovely girl on the TVRCC stand, but it was my left lower leg that was saturated. This only goes to prove that every TVR is different. Has anyone suffered from a moist middle leg whilst piloting an S ?

Re Manchester S's.........any advance on two? Come on now and show yourselves. Or does anyone know of any S's in their neighbourhood? (If there are, I guarantee you would hear them). Surely we are not alone!

I would be happy to meet other TVR owners even though the car is a actually my Sons. I've just adopted it in his absence and I'm preparing it for the mot. I don't know if your interested but I'm part of a classic car "Natter" in our local pub the "Labour in Vain" in Yarnfied Staffs. We welcome all car types and like to talk all things cars. One of the most interesting parts so far about the TVR is finding out all the 'Ford parts bin'bits its made up from. At least 4 different Ford models up untill now. I'm sure the more experinced owners out there know of many more. At least it makes obtaining spares quite cheap, especially not paying TVR prices. I noticed a single hood clip on ebay sold for £11, the TVR price was £17.vat. However in RS components thet are only £7ish.

Capri, Cortina, Sierra, Granada, Fiesta, Triumph TR7, SAAB 900/9000, FIAT 124/Lada, Sherpa Van, Mini, Vauxhall Carlton, and even one or two bespoke bits as well!
That's what I've found so far, and I only bought my S1 last August.

This forum is a goldmine for all this stuff, and the guys are most knowledgable and helpful.
Enjoy your (joint) ownership, see you at Chatsworth 29 April?biggrin

maybe that was down to the driving skills of the other driver, couldn't resist it
