As you may know, I am currently on the look out. I have spied a nice S but have received the following on e-mail:-

"As you are have a long distance to travel to view, a bit more history about
the car that you will want to know before proceeding further. The car is
registered with v-car as repaired and autoligned in 1992. This may be a
no-go for you, let me know.

I bought the car from a TVR main dealer so had some peace of mind when I
bought. Over three years of use have proved this to me. I took the view that
as long as the chassis had been inspected and proved to be to factory
dimensions that it should be o.k"

The price is relatively reasonable, although perhaps does not allow a great deal for this history. Would you walk away? how difficult would it be for me to sell it on when the 4 litre urge pulls me in?

Any comments would be appreciated as heart ruling head after Saturdays dissapointment.

I've always gone by the "if you're unsure - walk away" rule... and as yet I've never bought a bad car yet...

The fact that you seem unsure, should be telling you something. At the end of the day, it's not the only one for sale...

I have a Silver V8S which I am thinking of selling. It has a full service history and two main dealers who have done most of the work will sing it's praises. I have never had any probs with it and it doesn’t leak (even in torrential rain). It has up rated, fully adjustable suspension. Up rated, brakes with drilled discs - (unbelievable stopping power - brakes never fade). It also has sports exhausts (sound amazing - better than a wedge). It has truly been a cherished car. The main dealer that services it now, says it runs beautifully an that it is quickest V8S they have ever driven.

shnozz...

..due to the fact that this car is "cheap" (don't take this the wrong way ) does this mean you are on a budget.. ?? if so, how much is this car going to cost.. if you don't have a tight budget, walk away and wait for another car... if however you are penny counting then it might be an option if you have your eyes open at the onset.. what's the price? only then can we say if its worth considering..

Cheers
Matt.

The only way I would entertain it is if the chassis has been checked on a laser jig. If it has and it's square(!?) then start haggling - how about an engineers report?

thanks for the replies so far

its an S3 (on an H reg) with 63k on the clock for £6250. with regards to budget - I have not got a strict budget but having said that - the blue K reg that I like the sound of in Bristol is another £2k. I would be stretching to buy something around this price (but of course may enquire if offers are invited )and would rather keep some wonga spare.

Mark - my predicament is the reason why you should bother!

Well my S2 had a similar history, when the alarm bells rang about it being in a accident I was going to walk away. I decided I was still getting the car I liked, it drove nicer than some of the others I had driven and had been serviced with TVR since the accident. It does have more crazing than usual which would appear due to the accident but I can live with that, i’m so glad i got my car in the end, i put 11k on it last year. I've had some minor stuff you’d expect of any car like brakes, radiator and some other stuff but no more than others with similar age cars.

A lot of TVR will have had accidents in the past, mine is one off them.

Price wise I’d say £6250 is a not bad but probably would try around £5500, if it’s in good condition.

Removable roof eh!? Well there's a novelty
13K!! - Presumably you get someone to wash and wax it once a week for the duration of your ownership and free petrol/tax/insurance?

sorry just cut and pasted it from Autotrader.. to be honest though I thnk your best bet would be to sell it straight away to the TVR centre.. afterall if they can shift them for 13K I'm sure theyd give you 10-11K for it

Its ok I was only joking, but I looked at a few and its true if you dont buy quickly they will be gone in a few days,I was lucky with this one, fully documented TVR dealer history and only 2 owners from new, plus the first owner had it as a company car for 4 years so service costs were no expense spared. The bodywork is 100% and the chassis still has most of the original plastic coating intact and is also in really good nick,as I say I got lucky, also paid £1200 under my budget.

Well when I see others for sale for the same price as mine I’m not bothered, mine had all the bits I wanted and was cheaper than most others of similar condition. Glad I bought it over the others I looked at.
