Unfortunately it's that time of year again. I'm being quoted ££412.21 which seems a bit steep for 5000 miles even given my "slight off" last year.

Any recommendations? Any suggestions on agreed values?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mate

Following a recomendation from Longers I use RH Specialist Insurance.
My premium (S3 V6) is £128.26 which includes UK and Europe breakdown cover, mileage limited to 5000 and an agreed value of £6k. Kept in a garage with an approved imobiliser.

Hope this helps and good luck with the renewal

Cheers Gary

Apart from a couple of years with Hagerty, I've stuck with Classic Line of Hinckley, about £600 for the 3 cars - and they paid out on my old cerb.

Carole Nash - 230 uk & european breakdown. Limited to 5000 for V8s. Might also be worth trying performance direct, although The RH rate sounds good. All motor insurance rates well on the rise, so anything <500 is good frankly for a category 20 car. A regular insurer wouldn't want to write the risk.

Admiral also now do a classic policy, Its seems identical to their ordinary policy but requires you to send photo's and fill in a valuation form. I think I paid about £260 for 5000 miles, SDP + commuting, parked on drive overnight, agreed value £5000.

Looks interesting Gary - I may have to give them a go.

Might be low due to the location, after all we are in Norfolk...I was told by an insurer not so long ago that it didn't mater if my car was in the garage or on the dive as it would be unlikely to get stolen...having said that, we are more likely to crash and die when coming acorss mud on the back roads dropped when they were beet harvesting...oohh-aarrh boy!

Have you tried Classic Line?

They do limited mileage plus agreed valuation.

I have stayed with Norton Insurance brokers at £163. Limited mileage and I am of a certain age.... But they are Ok to deal with although I have not had to claim(touch wood!). They made a note that I am a tablet controlled diabetic but did not increase the premium. I used to be insured with RH but when I changed to the TVR they were not competitive - shows how things change over a year or so. I think it comes down to post code and an evaluation of other factors which gives different costs for different people. The main moral of the story, to my mind, is to make sure that the cover is relevant for all your circumstances so in the event of a claim they cannot say you are not covered because...... You can drive without any worries at the back of your mind and that is worth everything.

Cheers

I'm with Equity Redstar which cost £163 for the year too. I'm on a 3000 miles limited policy with breakdown included. I think it may also have European Cover but I am not certain. They were the most competitive of all the ones I tried (Classic Line, Haggerty, Henderson Taylor, needtoinsure, Manning and Admiral). Like others have said it surely depends on postcode and previous claims/points etc.

Results so far
Classic Line - £430.00 (existing insurer with increased AV & a bit of haggling)
Footman James - £480
Adrian Flux - £433 quoted on the ‘phone but £484 when the paper work came through!
Manning - £436.34 but plus extra for breakdown (included in all above) excellent service though, the guy really seems to understand TVR’s

Will try a couple of others but looking like Classic Line at the moment.

Mannings have a known TVR scheme and know what they are doing. Give Damian Collett a try at performance direct iff u get time. Bit worried about Carole Nash as their parent company Groupama are selling up. Genuinely feel we should all be grateful if below 500 quid a year - seriously. Can,t see it staying at < 250 somehow.

The standard Classicline policy requires you to always garage the car (assuming it is normally garaged over night) whenever you are at home - ie even if you are going out again shortly or just washed it and leaving it to dry you aren't covered for theft off the drive. They can offer a Brit insurance alternative which doesn't have that requirement though but don't tell you about this until you get the paperwork. Might not be an issue for you but completely bonkers to me.

I'm lucky enough to have a garage. I'm with Classicline & Brit at the moment. When I had the accident Classic line and their claims handling agent were a right pain but when I managed to get through to Brit direct they were very reasonable and helpful. Last years premium was £344 so that equates to a 25% hike. That's in line with general premium increases - Direct Line increased the premium on my daily drive by 33%. So taking into account the accident, it's painful, but par for the course. Because of the accident I only did 1300 miles last year even though I'd insured for 5000 but I'm not going to bother asking for an adjustment because I know what the answer will be! Insurance companies win either way. We are paying too much for insurance generally. Direct Line tried to increase my house & contents by well over 30%. If I’d gone tot hem as a new customer it would have been just over £100.00 less. In the end I went with Churchill and saved over £200. If they think they are getting my daily drive business later in the year they can think again. Everyone vilifies the banks but insurance companies are taking the Pcensored

Mannings for me too - excellent service and I've used them for some time. They're sympathetic to modifications and you'll get track day cover too - if that's your thang! biggrin
