Was wondering if anybody else has tried my bypass hose mod, i.e. blanking off the swirlpot and running the bypass hose to a tee in the bottom hose.

Been running like this for almost a year now and had no issues at all. The cooling system behaves just like a normal car. I am now convinced the TVR arrangement is wrong and probably causes some of the overheating problems as when the stat is fully open water can return to the block through the bypass connection on the swirlpot.
Rob.

I'm not sure if it makes a difference but there are two different water pump castings for the Ford 2.8 engine. The Capri (and the S as I've just changed it !) have a bypass running around the thermostat representing itself as a little bulge in the thermostat housing in about the 4 o'clock position. I'm not sure which cars did not have the by-pass, I always thought it was the Granada but maybe it's more logical on earlier models ?

Not done it but as a control I struggle to get above the 1/2 mark unless in traffic.

Me too, glad you said that as I was worried it may be running too cold and as a result over fuelling, not that fuel consumption seems poor
