Can anyone give me some basic ideas to get more power out of my S3c without going to too much expense? Is de-catting one option? I was seriously hassled by a Fiat Stilo Abarth the other day, I don't want to go through that that embarassment again (although on acceleration I kicked his ****!).

It all depends on how much more power you want and how much you can afford to spend.
If you are looking at trouncing the hot hatch brigade on dual carriageways, etc...... You will probably need to do engine mods.
Another variable is how much are you prepared to do yourself?

Out of interest then what sort of spec does this Fiat have?, I have never had a problem giving anything that has tried it on a good run for it's money in the S2 (Boxster, Sapphire Cosworth, Starion, 325i etc), I have also had a few modern Fiats as company cars and to be honest they were the most unstable cars I had ever driven (power steering so light that the air moved by my eyelid when I blinked made the car swerve!) and had to be red lined to get any sort of speed out of them, maybe they are making them a bit better now?

Cheers

De-Cat will help....But I would suggest a FSE Power Boost Valve, should be sub £100 and can be fitted easily enough.

I havnt got one but hear that they work better than a chip would. I would expect increased response and a feel of say 15-20 Hp more.

I was told that it makes 5th feel as responsive as 3rd.

Otherwise I guess you'd be into Cam changes & springs etc

Does 'de-catting' a TVR really make much difference? The cats are quite big and shouldn't really restrict the breathing of the car too much. I know that on an Elise for instance, the cats don't have much effect until you exceed 190 BHP. Also, don't forget that de-restricting the exhaust too much can also reduce exhaust back pressure so much that performance can decrease! (although this is usually only true of the huge boy-racer type wide-bore exhausts).
How does the power valve work? does it replace the existing pressure regulator? If so the lambda sensor will pick up the fact that there is more fuel flowing into the engine for a given volume of air and therefore reduce the timing pulse for the injectors, therby negating any possible gains of the new valve. (Or have I got my wires crossed?)
