Old style number plates

At this years S Club, there was a very nice S, that had "old style" number plates, Black and silver type plates,

With the tightened legislation about buying number plates, how can I get some made up?

If Your car is old enough then most number plate sales places can get them made up. I had some metal ones on a Cobra kit car which I got from halfords. If Your car is not old enough to meet dvla reg's then not so easy.....

The car is a 1993 vintage, I guess a little later than when the plates changed.

You can buy "Show Plates" on ebay easily enough but you takes your chances if you use them on the road...

However you can get'Showplates' made up exactly as you want, any colour, any font, any badge etc but the BiB are likely to pull you over though if you drive on the road.

I have some slightly non standard one made by http://www.craigsplates.com/ with TVR badges, and my pistonheads name!

I got some from the Classic car show this weekend. No questions no paperwork required. you can get them online but just have to say they are show plates!

Number plate offences are technical offences and carry an automatic £60 fine, no points. The downside i'n reality is it gives plod a "reason" to stop you which means they can check all manner of other things.

Look great but not only are you commiting at least 2 technical offences (£120) but you have potentially got your MOT man in the doodoo for passing it, he could loose his licence or have it suspended for which he wont thank you. Go ahead and do it but its silly to post it on here, of course he will deny it.


And yes yes before you say my number plate is illegal I obviously know but I dont get it MOT,d with it on.

i think they look good on the retro style of the car.

they're held on top of the "proper" plates with velco, for when dibble pull me and i deliver the, "oh i'm sorry ossifer, i was at a show at the w/e and must have forgotten to remove them. Here let me take them off now" ;-)
