Bonnet release

Just doing some work on the car and shut the bonnet went to release and left hand has stayed unreleased any help in getting it released greatly received.

Sometimes a little wiggle of the bonnet is required while pulling the release. You can get to the driver side with the window down.

as i pulled and move bonnet and it popped open

Are both sides stuck? Try driving over a speed hump whilst pulling the lever. Sounds daft I know but it might work. Mine pings open when I go over a hump at an odd angle ie one side of the car up on the the hump the other flat.

Secure the release handle in the 'open' position and the go to the corner that is still latched and pull it firmly forwards, backwards and sideways. It might need quite a lot of force to get the bonnet to move far enough to release the latch. If you can't free it, the latch itself is accessible from the top of the footwell, but on many cars that is panelled in. You other option is to move the latch plate yourself from the footwell, but I think you'll find that's very difficult to do. It shouldn't be necessary unless the release cable has actually snapped. If you can't get the bonnet to move far enough to release, consider slackening off the adjusters at the hinge to give you more play. In that case make sure you have somebody to catch the bonnet to make sure it doesn't flop around and damage the surrounding bodywork after it has released.

Only one side stuck and have put a fair amount of force through to try an drelease and getting no luck. accessing trough the passanger foot well sounds an option. However, behind the glove box is an arch of carpeted??. Is this screwed in? or is a prise it out and access through there.

You could try slacking off the adjusters on the hinge to give a bit more slack before you start pulling the foot-well apart.

Yahoo, thank you for making mekeep at it. Was putting some force through it. It is all in teh the angle. Jacked the front up andput it on axle stands and wiggled rather than foring it and it popped up. Re lubed big time. Battery out now, new battery tomroow, back window just spent the weekend hand stitching it back in(better than new). Should be back on the road next week. First time in over a year!!!

Also took out trim in foot passager footwell, only thing accessable was teh fuse box and lots of wire no access into the engine bay unless I am missing something..

The 2 bolts which holds the unit in are located there and you can just see where the cable runs into it,

With the bonnet open you can see exactly where the latch is. Reach around inside the passenger's footwell and get your hand on the underside of the same place. On some cars the left hand side of the footwell is panelled in (it is on mine) so that there is a boxed-in section between the outer edge of the footwell, and the outer skin of the body. That's awkward, because that's where you would need to get your hand to reach the underside of the latch. But on other cars it's open and you can just reach in. You may find there's better access on the driver's side so look in there to see where you're trying to get to.

have you pulled the handle fully as with ours when you pull it the drivers side pops first then the passenger

Only noticed last week when pulling it slowly as usually when you pull it its one quick motion

Thank you again for the assistance. Both release at the same time and once I managed to get the catch to pop open, inspecting the release catches they were very gloupy. Have cleaned back and regreased. Jacking the front up helped by getting a better angle and putting the bonnet at chest height.

A couple more niggles to resolve and back on the road.
