My S2 was due in for MOT today, my mate Tony who owns the garage picked the car up this morning.

On arriving at work I received a message to call him urgently. Not a good start I thought as I am as about relaxed as an expectant father at MOT time.

Called him up, to be greeted with an extremly quakey voice !

He was givin it some on the way to the garage to blow the cobwebs off as the car had been stood all winter when he depressed the brake pedal to find it go straight to the floor

The car had blown a rear brake cylinder, rather him than me.

Luckily he is an ex-rally driver so managed to save the car from too much damage. Although the nearside rear wheel sustained a large whack.

Apparently he was last seen holding a large packet of Marlboro Lights & an extremley large Brandy.

It's *supposed* to have dual circuit brakes, so complete brake failure should be nearly impossible?

If the situation had been reversed nad you pranged Tony's car, what fairy tale would you have told?

How noticeable is it if one circuit fails? Is it extremely obvious, or is it something you might not notice until the other circuit fails and leaves you with no brakes at all?

Er, Um, Been there, done that!
I can confirm that the dual brake circuit thing does NOT work.
My main rear brake pipe fractured after the rear bias valve and I had virtually no brakes at all. Even stopping from 10 MPH was very, very, difficult without using the handbrake.
Your mechanic is telling the truth!

Seriously though, I've heard storys much the same that it doesnt work on an S.

I've had this go on me when driving an MG (ahem ) Maestro, and the duel circuit GP valve only allowed the nearside front and offside rear to work.

That was quite "interesting" at the time as it was winter with ice on the road.
