Help required finding a good tyre

Hi guys, can anybody advise on a good 205, 60, R15 tyre for an s series? Nick currently has kleber on the front and bridgestone potenzas on the back. The potenzas now need replacing, and he wants a grippy sports tyre, but nobody seems to make one. Also, is it possible to fit a larger tyre, say 225, to the s series wheel? Will this have too much sidewall movement?

It's not just sidewall movement you want to worry about, it's tyre rubbing on trailing arm or spring on the inside, or wheel arch on the outside.

I'm interested in the answer on tyre types though - I'll be looking to replace a pair of Potenzas on the rear in the next couple of weeks.

I've just replaced all of mine with Yokohama C-drive2's - all 205/60 R15's - still fresh (under 1k miles), but pleased so far and noticing the difference between old & new ! price was very reasonable too

I'm more than pleased with my Toyo CF1's, just bought a pair today (one damaged in recent accident)standard size £140 fitted and road force balance, fair price I thought?

Personally feel no need to go wider than 205 (but do make sure you get at least V rated)unless maybe doing track days, drag racing or competing in the National Traffic Light Grand Prix Championship.

Right idea but you've jumped the wrong way: 205/55/15, Griff fronts.

OK, anyone know any good sites? There seems to be an absolute plethora of sites toting cheap tyres, but obviously Nick would rather get them from a good reputable site.

And JR, surely if he put griff fronts on (or indeed Chim Imolas, which looking at mine are 205/55/r15), that would mean that the tyres looked tiny in the wheel arches, and also it'd change the speedo's accuracy, as well as ride height?

I used http://www.event-tyres.co.uk they fit tyres at your house or wherever and I have nothing but good things to say, very professional.
I had Toyo's can't remember exact type 4 for £248 but that was a couple of years ago.

In reverse order: yes, by 10mm; yes, by 3% and smaller but not a lot. It used to be the default change for S owners (and check exhaust mountings) because they wanted the best performing tyres but today most S owners appear to prefer the original looks over getting the best performing rubber. Depends what your priorities are - I thought that Nick would want the better grip tyre.

IMHO you could do a lot worse than Toyo Proxes T1R. They're very good on lighter sports cars, and not too expensive. Set of 4 from Event for my MX-5 was £220 fitted. There are some similarly priced Falkens that are very good too.

The other good place to get tyres is from Camskill.

I bought BF goodrich G-Grip a couple of years ago, they don't look particulaly sporty but the grip in all conditions including snow has been brilliant. Did my best to upset them at Cosford last year (100 mph slides and hard braking) with no drma at all. cost about £50 a corner.

Well, I have one 15 inch imola sat in the garage and also a 16 inch from when I parked my chim in a hedge (the other two got smashed as I rode up the kerb, whoops). Anyhow, will the 16s fit on the back? That'd fill the wheel arch more, give him more ride height, and also a fatter tyre?

Yes, that would be an excellent solution. IIRC Peter (GreenV8S) had these fitted all round at one time with 225/50/16s all round; he may still have them fitted - perhaps drop him a line to check my memory?
