Hi

Im after a set of brake calipers for a chimaera and understand that they are the same as the S series (240mm discs), as i have one broken bleed nipple and one that wont come undone.

Was going to upgrade the brakes soon just need these to tide me over.

Can anyone help?

My originals are in my shed somewhere.Think they're ok, upgraded to 260mm.

But I'm not exactly local, Redditch near Birmingham. Heavy old things to post, do you get up this way for work, visiting family or whatever?

Now you are talking about breaks, is it possible to replace rear breaks with Discs ?

so has Alan Whittaker

and so have I - Alan gave me a set as he was going bigger at the rear - very easy to do

I have an adjustable brake pressure valve in the rear line to set it up

what is up with your rear drums ? under normal raod use they are fine

Sierra again - non vented discs 273mm or thereabouts I think (yes they are bigger than the fronts but the area of pad contact is smaller)

Mine are the non-vented solid discs from an early Griffith, guy I bought them from was upgrading to the later vented discs.
Think its all Ford stuff, higher spec. Sierras or Granada.

I absolutely caned the living daylights out of my S2 on track days and the brakes took it remarkably well, if they're in good working order they can take a lot of abuse. Do you actually need discs all round, or is it just something you fancy adding? I haven't done the conversion myself (I changed to a V8S instead) but I understood it involved replacing the whole hub assembly and took quite a lot of time and money. Has anyone managed to do the rear drum/disc conversion without replacing the whole thing?

this shows two diameters? from memory I thought mine are 273 (larger dia. than front) but are definately solid, not the vented ones so I'm probably wrong! confused

rather than use the Griffith bearing carrier (this has the caliper mounts on it)because the bearing sizes are different, I used some adaptor brackets from www.3gecomponents.com
These give the choice of having the caliper at 3 or 9 o'clock whereas the Griffith ones would have put it at 12 o'clock.
Where I have them the nipple is not at the highest point so bleeding is a bit aukward, but not something you do everyday so I can live with that.

Don't look very big in picture, perhaps they are the smaller diameter?
