'S' Bullet Cam Test

I'm going on a run on Bank Holiday Monday (see Events forum). We've just acquired a bullet camera, and tried three locations. Which one would you go for?

If I may be so bold, none of them! Bonnet view has too much bonnet, the wing one needs to be further out so you can see more of the turning wheel IYSWIM.

I would try to mount it in the intake under the nose, or just behind the front wheel...

Might be an idea to relocate the mic if you can, it seemed to be overloading quite a lot. Nice village, and nice orchard in the garden too!

I like the angle taken behind the front wheel around the lower door position best but all would do for me.
What kit are you using, it's clear and stable.

I agree with all this. It is limited by very basic suction mounts. However, you didn't mention the rear view experiment. The plan is to have the passenger wielding a handheld camera with the bullet cam as supplementary.

Sorry, wasn't sure if I had missed another forward view. Rearwards was fine but I'd rather see where I'm going

Can you suction mount further forward on the wing?

I actually liked the exhaust distorting the sound. Obviously not as the main camera. However as said, there will be a handheld camera in the passenger seat with a aftermarket stereo microphone Maybe a subtle blend...

That strange resonant noise when you were driving gently drowned out the exhaust and gave me a headache. It sounded better when you were moving faster. Is there some sort of automatic gain control that is ramping the volume up when you're going gently? Maybe try turning that off.

Of those three camera positions, behind the front wheel was my favorite, and on top of the bonnet was my least favorite. But I suggest you see if you can position the camera behind the driver's shoulder. I have a rollover bar which makes that very convenient, but I think you could probably do it quite easily without that just by putting a bit of wood between the two shoulder mounts for the seat belts. It would need to be stabilised to stop the camera rocking around, but I'm sure you could manage that. The advantage of this position is that with the right lens you can see the road, instruments, steering wheel and maybe even gear lever so you can get a pretty good idea what was going on. Position it right (or wrong, depending on your point of view) and you can also see the driver's face in the rear view mirror.

Quality looks good on PC screen. Any comments on the quality if played back on full size tv screen? I know the GoPro gets good reviews for image quality but it hasn't got the option of fitting an external mic...

I've not seen it on a television screen yet. But 720HD isn't bad.

The run itself was good fun

Some footage can be used. Not much though Learnt a few lessons, more testing required. The tunnels came out ok though
