oil leaking V8S diff
Discussion
Hi all,
recently i noticed some oil under my V8S, under the diff. Not much, and i believe only after a good tour. Ik read in the bible that the cause could be a pressure build up, when the breather pipe is blocked.
So far i havent been able to locate the pipe or the hole on my diff.
Could anyone please inform me where to find it?
If it would be necessary to replace the seal on the diff, it seems that it would be a nasty job to take the diff out of the car.
Am i correct that it would be necessary to take the tank out first?
And that for this even a partial bodylift would be involved?
Help very much appreciated,
Ronc

Its an open ended pipe a couple of inches long sticking up from the drivers side top corner.

You don't have to remove the body - but it will be pigging awkward.
I think this description below will work - I took mine out with the body off.
Thinking off the top of my head you'll need to undo 6 torx bolts on each driveshaft flange (very tight so use something decent) and the propshaft flange. Its different to the V6 - the prop is telescopic (I'm guessing its a front Range Rover Prop or something) so once the prop flange is undone you can slide it back.
Remove 6 bolts as in the picture above - 4 allen key and 2 hex head.
There are 4 bolts attaching the diff to the diff cradle bracket - 2 each side - take these bolts out although you may still wrestle to get it to come out of the bracket. One of the heads is hard to get at - put a jack under the diff to lift it to gain access.
Its still quite a puzzle how the diff comes out but it does - just be careful its a heavy lump.

Chris has beat me to it but another picture if it helps

Should be a short length of rubber tube on there, on the diff I put back in I curled it round like a "pigs tail", can still vent but nothing can fall in (not that anything is very likely to, but.....)
