another rad question

Still trying to save up for an alloy rad. Is the s1 ( with the fan on the engine side) the same as the s2 ? Also price seems to be around £400 but there are alloy rads on e bay for various jap cars for around £ 150 so. ........ how hard would it be to modify the brackets and would an alternative rad from a performance car cool my s 1 properly.?

Was a nice shiney alloy rad for a sierra xr4 (same engine so should work?) or similar on Ebay for about £100 not too long ago,size was about right, l was tempted but without access to alloy welding I decided that with all the messing about, paying someone to modify, and the risk of it all going pear shaped I bottled out.

Good old copper 'n brass will do me for a bit longer

I see your point but there must be a mounting on the rad already so would make something to mate up to that , just thinking out loud ,thanks for your input more welcome.

I just won? on fleabay a rad from a Mondeo ST24 with 2 electric fans on engine side for £35 - it is an ally one - doesnt look a difficult job to modify the brackets (I might be wrong but won't know til I try)

On my S I used a MGF alloy rad from a MGF race car. It was fitted into some alloy RHS at both the top and bottom and steel brackets were made up that bolted into the original fittings, Pipe work had to use some hoses that converted the 32mm rad connectors to 38mm (?) that was on the S. The who;e thing is completely reversible - if I hadn't thrown the original rad away.

A quick look on e bay shows some promising results. mgf looks affordable too did you manage to fit the fan ok ?

Mgf rad is 100mm shorter top to bottom fitting should fairly straight forward but will it cool sufficiently ? Opinions please .

How does it compare thickness wise, number of cross tubes, density of fins etc. ?
