Hi guys and girls,

I know this question has a lot of variables including driving style, extra weight, roof on or off etc, but what would you expect an S2 to do in terms of range with a full tank?

I'm off to Germany on Wednesday morning and trying to guess-timate my fuel usage.
I did Le Man last year in the S, but I can't for the life of me remember how many times I filled up. I may have repressed the memory.

It's about 500 miles each way, with the majority of the roads being motorways. I'll be following my mate in his van so I will mainly be doing a steady 70 mph.

Is 25 mpg on the motorways a realistic return?

A bit of fag packet maths points towards a 300 mile range on a full tank. Does this sound correct?

when I went to Germany in my s3c back in june, on a single tank I got to dover (220 miles) and about 100 miles from Calais I had to fill up and it took 11.5 gallons, so to be honest 300 miles between fill ups should be easily acheivable, if you keep to 70mph ish, good luck

Cheers.....Tony..

Would start looking for a petrol station at @250 miles. Did home to Sclub which was around 240 miles and was bouncing about under the 1/4 mark, petrol senders not to be trusted under that. Would agree with the 30mpg figure.
Have a good trip.

on both our trip to Scotland earlier this year and Europe last year mine averaged around 28mpg over a mixed range of driving. As suggested, I'd be looking to fill up around every 250 miles max. 300 could be pushing it (literally!)

My S2 returns just over 30mpg based on a 30 mile commute to work, 1/2 on motorway and 1/2 A road including a fair amount of traffic jams etc. Just keep the right foot light and you should get this.

I went round France with my girlfriend.....and all her luggage, the car was full to bursting but we still managed 29 mpg over 2400 miles of mixed driving. ( +plus the car was weighted up with wine stashed here there and everywhere on the way back!!!!)

I only managed approx 22 I think on last years Euro jaunt...

25mpg at a steady motorway pace should be easily achievable though

This seems like a suitable post to add my question!

When the needle on my fuel gauge stops moving (even around sharp corners), I assume tank is nearly empty. So, just filled her up after a morning blast, and managed to get 36 litres in.

What size is the fuel tank (in litres) on an S3?

Just trying to work out if I am being too cautious.

Thanks

My original factory owner's handbook says 12 gallons / 54.5 litres. That was for the S1 ; don't know if the S3 is bigger.

Usual TVR "optimism" wink

Think they're all the same size, measured mine a while back and calculated it to near as damn it 50 litres.

Cheers guys, so I have a fair amount of safety then after the needle stops moving.

So very rough calculation based on an average of 20 mpg, means should get 220 miles on a tank before filling up.

I'll work off that instead,
