Thought I would pass on the result of removing my precats. After ages discussing this and the various options I took them out of the V8SC this week.
Result : reduced under bonnet temperature / breathes better & is definately quicker / sounds much better and not too loud / still passes emissions test. Bit of a no brainer really,wish I had done it ages ago.
I don't suppose this applies to many out there on this forum as only about 30 V8SCs built, not sure about the S4.
Warning, if you do it yourself cat dust is toxic, and of course it is an engine mod for the insurers.

I have never come across a V8SC , I assume a V8 with cats although I have never realised they were marketed in the same way as S3s with cats (and LSD ) as S3C's always learn something new everday !

I don't think they were marketed as V8Sc specifically, AFAIK all V8S were cat equiped.

Just for the record my car is registered as a V8SC and thats shown in the original sale document July 1994.
Cats were mandatory in 1993 and the "bible" shows around 30 V8 cars sold thereafter, these being Chimaera spec and would have had a cat. I guess before that date some buyers opted for cats as an extra.

No, my 1992 V8S was never fitted with Cats. I guess that it's the same engine as the Chim/Grif 'pre cat'.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for posting the info, mine is Aug 93 and was also built with cats. I understand the engines are to Chim spec with torque developed lower down the range although produce the same amount. A friend of mine has a pre-cat V8s and we like our track days and there appears to be no difference in performance, but they do sound completly different. My friends has factory headlamp washers with the filler being in the boot gutter and central locking - posh sod!!

A stag owner at Castle Combe once looked at my overly large exhaust manifold's went away and came back with his friend's to show what he thought was a TVR with twin turbo's !!!
